Gregory DG #1 Posted November 9, 2005 (edited) Chris Sawyer, the developer behind the highly successful PC sim series RollerCoaster Tycoon, is suing publisher Atari for nearly USD 5 million in alleged unpaid royalties. Sawyer claims that Atari acted in breach of contract by refusing to give auditors full access to accounts between 1999-2001. Following a desktop review and analysis carried out by his own auditors, Sawyer claims that Atari Interactive owes him USD 4.8 million in omitted and miscalculated payments. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=12857 Hmmm... So the suer becomes the suee... Edited November 9, 2005 by Gregory DG
Clint Thompson #2 Posted November 10, 2005 As if Atari already isn't under enough financial problems.... but... pay where payment is due.
classicgamingguy #3 Posted November 10, 2005 So.......... What were they hiding in that time frame? Why not give full access? Money being shoveled somewhere else? Steve
Atariman #4 Posted November 10, 2005 But wasn't Atari a division of Hasbro at the time? I just find it odd that now that they're going after Atari now that it has been acquired by Infogrames (and converted) rather than going after the parent-company at that time... JimmydelaKopin #5 Posted November 10, 2005 Hey, you know how big Hasbro is. If this guy sued Hasbro, he wouldn't see a dime until he's old enough to get a senior's discount at EuroDisney!
Tempest #6 Posted November 10, 2005 This 'new' Atari is begining to sound alot like the old Atari... Tempest
Atariman #7 Posted November 10, 2005 This 'new' Atari is begining to sound alot like the old Atari... Tempest 963280[/snapback] see... I guess that's why I made my comment above - it wasn't the 'new' Atari that pulled this stunt. It was from 1999-2001 - before Infogrames acquired Atari... of course, I guess it depends on what you consider to be 'new'. I don't attribute this lawsuit with the Atari that brought us the Flashback 2.
Hydian #8 Posted November 13, 2005 When Infogrames bought Atari, they also got all of Atari's liabilities. Hasbro didn't cheat the guy directly, Atari did.
