Will you be accepting a US certified Check or money order Contact me with the present state of the item and your contact information to mail out the payment to you as soon as possible. Name you want on check: Home Address: City: State: Country: Phone Number/Office Number I send him back this without a second thought: > Item: Mother of all COLECOVISION Auctions (8231354600) > This message was sent while the listing was active. > dgob123 is the seller. > --------------------------------------- > The system and accessory items are all in original boxes. As to the price the carts alone are worth very close to > 500.00 buy I would be willing to sell it all shipping included for > 600.00 just make the necesarry adjustment in the price when you > checkout or I will send a adjusted invoice. Thanks for your > interest. Then I get this bullshit: hello, thanks for your response,i will like to tell you that you dont need to worry about the shipping of the item that he have contacted a shipping company that will come for the pick up of of the item from your home.that is why my client add extra funds to the payment so that as soon as you received the payment just deduct your item money and wired back the excess funds back the same day you received it, get back to me with your address and phone number. They've (the Nigerians/wire defrauders) been hitting eBay lately -- I guess E-Mail spam isn't working out for them like it used to. There was a old letter they used to circulate about a soccer team needing some help to secure a million dollars that the government sealed up or something like that. All you had to do was donate some money and they'd give you a cut when they got their shares back plus the money you invested before. Actually it might have been a South Africian team, but same deal. Fraud.
n8littlefield #8 Posted November 10, 2005 Yup - definately wire fraud. I posted a few things on craigslist awhile back, and all I got for responses were people who wanted to wire me like 10x the price to ship to their kid overseas. Does it every actual work for them anymore? I would have thought people would have wised up!

And sadly, people are still falling for it.
RickHarrisMaine #10 Posted November 10, 2005 It worked great for me though. In their gratitude for me giving them all my financial information, they will be sending me $10 million, re-naming the Nairobi International Airport in my name, sending me 36 goats, plus a little something they call "Door number 3". I'm pretty excited about the whole thing.

Mindfield #12 Posted November 10, 2005 They still work for the same reasons spam still works -- 'cos ignorant people still buy into it -- and probably because there's still not enough publicity to raise awareness to a level Joe Schmoe will pick up on. The only time you really see any significant sort of publicity surrounding cases like these are when they feature specials on 60 Minutes or (in Canada) W5 -- and the people who watch programs like that are probably already aware enough to know about the "Nigerian" scams. I'm sure eventually the average Bob will get hip to it, but by that time I'm sure there will be new and ever more exciting scams to bait people with. They BIN'd the auction and demanded me to ship it to Nigeria before they paid; once they rec'd the items, they claimed they would wire the money. When I refused I started to receive phony "payment sent through Bidpay" emails. I reported the fraud to ebay but ebay responded there was nothing they could do. I also reported it to Bidpay and they claimed the fake emails would be investigated and never heard again. itsralph wound up buying the collection. Thanks Ralph. At least the "pros" try and work out terms of payment before demanding the merchandise -- no one should expect to succeed asking for stuff now and payment later. That's just pathetic -- even for the Nigerian scammers.
