n8littlefield #1 Posted November 14, 2005 I have the US version of the Yobo clone and was wondering if anyone has a list or a link to a list that gives the compatibility issues with games. I have a couple of games I know don't work (Rolling Thunder, Bad Dudes) but when I clean and test a new game and it doesn't work, it's always a trick to figure out if it's just not clean enough or if it simply won't work. Anyone have one? Thanks!
Flojomojo #2 Posted November 14, 2005 I've been looking for one, too. The closest thing I've found is a big-ol' review by "Great Heirophant" on this board. S/he could probably answer specific questions about compatibility.
Great Hierophant #3 Posted November 14, 2005 I know of no reason why Bad Dudes or Rolling Thunder (US Versions, Famicom versions are more likely to fail) would completely fail to work on a Yobo, but I, (a he by the way), will try them tonight and see. n8littlefield #4 Posted November 14, 2005 So far, the only other one I can't get to boot is Duck Tales.
Flojomojo #5 Posted November 14, 2005 I can confirm that Rolling Thunder doesn't work. GH, you are a wild man.
Great Hierophant #6 Posted November 14, 2005 I have gotten Rolling Thunder to work in my Yobo. Neither my copy of Bad Dudes or Rolling Thunder would work in my Yobo initially, but then I put a Game Genie between the cartridge and the console and they both worked fine (minus inaccurate sound of course.) Try using a Game Genie for stubborn cartridges, often it comes down to slight physical oddities with cartridge connectors. On the other hand, Mach Rider won't work with my Game Genie but works without it. Go figure.
Lacan #7 Posted November 15, 2005 For some reason I think Family Boy Vol 4 is the best NES Clone. It can run all my games including Bad Dudes. The only game that doesn't work on mine is Castlevania III.
Great Hierophant #8 Posted November 15, 2005 The general rule of a NES or Famiclone's compatibilty is the closer it is to the time of the Famicom, the more compatible it is likely to be. Pirates back in the old days actually tried to make their clones work as well as Nintendo's, compatibility being another point of competition. These days they are not equal to the old standards and air to learn from their mistakes or improve their products. If Castlevania III doesn't work, eleven other games won't work properly or at all. Call them the Terrible Eleven. Here is the challenge to a NES Clone maker, get all the Terrible Eleven to work. From my earlier post, I identify the Terrible Twelve NES Games: Afterburner II Bandit Kings of Ancient China Castlevania III Gauntlet Gemfire Laser Invasion L'Empereur Micro Machines Nobunaga's Ambition Rad Racer Romance of the Three Kingdoms II Uncharted Waters
