Atarian7 #1 Posted April 30, 2002 Has anyone ever considered attempting this game? If it could be done well it would be very popular and probably sell thousands of copies.
moycon #2 Posted April 30, 2002 If not thousands.... maybe hundreds of thousands!!!! MWWAAAAHAAAHAAAAA!!!!!! Ummmm Sorry... Too much coffee. Yes it would be popular. There are a few hacks out there of pitfall. I have a Pitfall 3 game for the C-64... The gameplay is exactly like Pitfall but with an Egyption theme. Nothing really exciting. That would be awesome if someone would make an Atari 2600 sequel of the same calibre as Pitfall 2. I'd buy it!!!!
Atarian7 #3 Posted April 30, 2002 They'd have to have cartridges made for that production run. Either that or spend hours and hours removing labels from combat and pac man carts. Or if they could find all those lost E.T. carts they could use those shells.
DEBRO #4 Posted April 30, 2002 There was talk about a Pitfall 2+ a while back. I haven't looked at it but I think someone said it was a hack and not an original work. Take a look at http://www.otakunozoku.com/p2plus/index.html.
Snider-man #5 Posted April 30, 2002 Actually there was a great hoax a while back on "Pitfall 3: Harriet's Quest." I forget the details, but someone made a few "fake prototype" cases, then dumped them into thrift stores in his area, knowing that a collector would find it and come a-crowin'. Sure enough, the boards went a-fire with speculation and theories when it finally surfaced. Funny stuff. Who here knows the full story?

This was a Lore entry in DP5, although it was probably discussed to death in the newsgroups when the fake proto surfaced. I don't know if that story's been transcribed and put on the web anywhere, but I'll ask Joe if I can post the it here. ..Al
maximebeauvais #7 Posted April 30, 2002 I'm learning the programmation. I'm only a beginner right now.... My goal is to do a pitfall 3!!! I have a very good idea of want I want but I don't have all the knowledge of the programmation to do it. Maybe in a few year OR maybe someone will do it before me
Snider-man #8 Posted April 30, 2002 I found the Pitfall III "discovery" thread on RGVC archieves. Read on: Pitfall III found! However, I can't seem to find the "confession" thread when the hoax was discovered...
Ze_ro #9 Posted April 30, 2002 No offense to anyone intending to do this, but I personally would rather NOT see anyone do a Pitfall III. As talented as the homebrew guys out there are, I'm just not confident anyone can top Pitfall II, and I just think the resulting game would be somewhat of a disappointment (especially if it was just a hack project). Of course, if someone hacks Pitfall II into a different game, and calls it something else, that's fine by me... I'd just rather not see anyone sully the tradition of amazing Pitfall games. --Zero
DuckandCover #10 Posted April 30, 2002 I'd have to agree. It would take a pretty amazing effort to produce something that was a worthy follow-up to Lost Caverns.
mos6507 #11 Posted April 30, 2002 I actually think some effort should go into reproducing the DPC chip using modern components. Then we could have all sorts of games that utilize its features. Activision was going to use it in more than just Pitfall II, you know.
ubersaurus #12 Posted April 30, 2002 how about reproducing POKEYs with modern components? That would help the 7800 homebrew scene too.
Klove #13 Posted May 1, 2002 Pitfall 3. For the Atari 2600??? eheheheh "Now that's an idear." Wink.. Wink.. Nudge.. Nudge. ehehehe Why.. nobody should take a stabe at PItfall 3. Only one person could do that title right. And God knows he hasn't done an Atari 2600 title for sometime. ehehehe
Pitfall Harry #14 Posted May 1, 2002 I'd like to see somebody take the Adventurer's Level (level 2) from the 5200 version of Pitfall II: Lost Caverns and port it over to the Atari 2600 with the sound from the original Atari 2600 version of Pitfall II thrown in. Call it Pitfall III or a hack or whatever. I would love to play it on my 2600. Ben

Chris++ #16 Posted May 1, 2002 They'd have to take those damn wacky-bats out of the Pitfall II "bonus world" if they were to turn it into its own game. I hate those things. http://www.geocities.com/flynnwins
