Cheapest loose/Most expensive boxed game?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about this recently.....

What single game title would be cheapest to buy loose but cost a small fortune to find boxed?

My vote would be Submarine Commander. They only get about 10-15 loose but boxed they go over 100.

I don't mean what is the cheapest boxed game etc, I mean the same game just being extreme in value depending on complete/loose.

Possibly Silver Gravitar?

Any others you can think of?

I guess it depends on what you consider cheap on the loose side of that. All the club releases are hard to find boxed, but most other R7-9s are anyways, so not much difference. I think all across the board boxed is higher. Just a few cases where a pal box can sub for a ntsc, where pal is actually common.

Submarine Commander does not come around often in the box, but the last one I saw was sold as part of a mixed lot with a bunch of other stuff & it didn't even break $100. I traded for the copy in my collection, and it was a dup from whom I got it from. I think it's a solid $50+ title in box, but I wonder if people pass it off since it's a Sears title sometimes, even tho it's an exclusive title.

I think you can make a plea for most R6+ where a loose cart could be selling under $20, and boxed complete well over $100 I think Frogger II falls in this catagory.

I think the Pengo box is alot rarer than people give it credit for. I've personally only seen around 4 copies of this over the past 2+ years of looking. PAL Pengo is rare, but NTSC Pengo box is not an easy find either. I've seen more of Rubik's/Video Cube & Waterworld in box than I have of Pengo. But the last few that have sold were in lots, so hard to determine a price.

Track and Field only goes for less than 20 dollars loose, but boxed it costs over 300 dollars. :!: Rarity 6 games is were you find the largest price difference in loose versus boxed.

Up n' Down is a rarity 7 that is almost always under 20 dollars loose and CIB copies are extremely hard to find so I'm sure they fetch over 300 dollars as well. Actually I have this game CIB and I hope it fetches over 300, because I paid over 300 for it. :P My CIB copy is still sealed in the box however. :)

I don't think I've ever seen a boxed Cannon Man before. Could it be a contender?

Track-n-Field is definitely the champion.

Waterworld is a conteder. Loose it sells for about $40-50. Boxed is another story.

Good answers :)

I think Track and Field does take the cake on this one. Was this game short shipped or supplied? I wonder why that game seems to be SO hard to find even though it was: 1. An Atari release AND 2. The 84 Olympics were all the rage because the summer games were in LA that year.

I can't even say its because of the bigger box because Indy and Star Raiders have the same sort of thing and they are common as dirt.

ANY Gatefold box. The carts are common as hell, the boxes are not. Especially the Sears releaases.

if you are including PAL games i would say atari 32 in 1!

Indeed - that's the most extreme example.

Loose - common as muck.

Boxed - practically impossible to find.

It's because it was bundled without a box with every junior....

BTW, the person who said that PAL Pengo is rare - that's like saying Video Life is rare.

In fact, there are more known Video Life carts than there are PAL Pengo carts. :)

Definatly loose text label Combat or even silver label Centipede some times that can go for as much as 50p!

Or maybe Pole position . . . .
