R.Cade #1 Posted November 29, 2005 I have not been into collecting for a while, but I was going through my box of games to see what I had and didn't have and had a question. River Raid II is listed as AK-043-02, but if you view the cartridge scan, it clearly says it's AK-048-04. Nothing is listed for AK-048, so is it an error? - Pete Rittwage C64 Preservation Project http://rittwage.com/c64pp
Room 34 #2 Posted November 29, 2005 (edited) My River Raid II cart (which, sadly, doesn't actually WORK), is also labeled AK-048-04. The 043 slot belongs to Commando, so I guess it's either an error in the database here or there are two versions with different numbers. The full number on my Commando cart is AK-043-04, technically not EXACTLY the same as what the AA database has for RR2, but then again, I've never seen two Activision games with the same 3-digit number in the middle. I'm not sure what the second letter represents, and the -04 just started appearing on later carts, but for the most part it looks to me like the 3-digit numbers on Activision games are sequential, roughly in order of release. Looking at the scans... I notice the BOX scan for RR2 says AK-048-02. The back of the MANUAL says AK-048-03. So I guess they started numbering the individual parts of the package with the last digits. So maybe whoever entered the number in the database was looking at the box instead of the cart, and misread the 8 as a 3. I've heard that it sometimes doesn't work in a heavy sixer or other older woodies. Hope this helps!! Cause it is a great game.

I'm not trying to argue, I just am wondering why we're coming up with conflicting information. This is where I got my information. It came from the game history section in the original Actipak for PC's. Here's what I was remembering: Dan Kitchen left Activision in 1986 and formed another video game company, Absolute Entertainment, with his brother Garry, Alex DeMeo and John Van Ryzin, all of whom were also Activision game designers. Kitchen also designed the Atari 2600 games Kung Fu Master and River Raid II for Activision in the late 80's. "There was a point," Kitchen said, "where I was the last person in North America -- if not the world -- still programming games for the Atari 2600 machine. I was the last." Kitchen lives in New Jersey and is the Executive Vice President of Absolute Entertainment.
