+DarkLord #1 Posted December 3, 2005 I was just wondering, I have my Wizztronics Falcon case, which I love, but its purely black. Nothing wrong with the color that defines the absense of color/light as we know it, but my accessories around it don't match. Can anyone offer me some helpful hints/sage advice, etc, etc, for painting the following so they match?: monitor mouse floppy faceplate CDRW faceplate I'm using a DEKA interface so I've got the black keyboard part covered already. Thanks gang! :-)
Gunstar #2 Posted December 3, 2005 The only way to do it and look professional is to gut them all down to the cases and then paint the cases, when finished, re-install everything in their cases, also, cover or remove any decals/logo plates, etc before painting. Get some black paint to match the Wizztronics case (flat, semi-gloss, gloss, etc.) Get high quality spray paint like Rustoleum or other name brand paint. When spraying the cases, try to keep it in as dust-free an envirnoment as possible, and never hold the can closer that about 8 inches away from the cases, preferably further, and do even strokes, but don't put it on too thick. If done properly, you should still see the original color, after at least the first coat, possibly second, through the paint. If you can't, your applying to much paint in one session. Allow the coat to dry as specified by the paint can instructions, and come back for an additional coat. Apply 3-4 coats until it's all evenly covered. You may have to let coats cure overnight for best results. Spraying any closer or thicker will cause dripping and/or the "raisin skin" effect while drying. Two obviously amaturish results of a poor paint job. Take your time.

Can't wait to get it all together and (mostly) one color. :-)

Make sure you thoroughly strip everything down before you start and scrub all the plastic parts nice and clean to remove greasy residue, otherwise the paint can react to it (causing runs / raisining). Good luck dude, it's easier than it sounds once you get the hang of it. I practised on a dead old Dreamcast first! Sold it to one of my mates for a fiver... Not bad huh! I've got about a week off right before Christmas, so if nothing happens I'm planning on trying it then. I was looking at colors and so far I like "Hammered Black". A friend of mine used it on some peripherals he added to a black Dell case and it looks pretty good. Thanks for the reply(s)! :-)
Gunstar #6 Posted December 10, 2005 You don't necessarily have to match the color of the Wizztronics case either, you know, just in case it never crossed your mind, you could choose whatever color or colors you want, even black if that's your preference, and paint it all, including the Wizztronics' case, for a perfect match. Off blacks, dark grays, you know, colors like that. I wouldn't want it all one solid color though. :-)
