yuppicide #1 Posted December 3, 2005 (edited) Went to an arcade game auction today. I'm looking to get one of those Merit MegaTouch bartop games. They had about 20 them and a few more stand up units. Great prices on them too. One unit sells on eBay for $2799 and even more from a distributer I bet and this one sold for $1200. Looked like it worked great, but cosmetically wasn't that good. It was the Force 2006 model with flat LCD screen and dollar bill accepter. I bid on a Force 2006 model, not the flat LCD one, but the screen was broken. It showed signs of life by a little lighted dot in the center, but other than that who knows. I got outbid by $25. It cost me $10 to register to bid, but I look at it as a good experience. Since it was my first auction, I now know the process that goes on, about how much things go for, etc. I also know how to get to the place so I don't have to be late. I'll be back in January with $1000 to buy a nice MegaTouch. All in all they had about 80 or 90 games, some redemption games, a bunch of stuffed animals for those crane games, and boxes of random stuff: ie: power supplies, game boards (I remember seeing Pengo in a box of about 4 others that all sold pretty cheap), some neon beer signs, etc. They have another auction in January if you're in New Jersey: http://www.usamusement.com/ Viewing starts 8 or 8:30am and the auctions start 10am. It's free to look and if you bring an extension cord you can try any game out until the auction starts. Edited December 3, 2005 by yuppicide
Dav #2 Posted December 3, 2005 $10 for a bidders number! I know I wouldn't be back, but then we have several auctions here to choose from and only 1 charges a bidder fee. I could see charging admission to try to keep the kids down, but why would you discourage people from bidding by making them pay for a number?
yuppicide #3 Posted December 4, 2005 Where are you at?! I wish there were more game auctions in my area. I'm gonna see if there's any in neighboring states coming soon.. like New York, Pennsylvania, Deleware, etc.

They had some interesting items I was temped to bid on (two really clean Asteroids machines, Star Wars pinball, Missile Command cabaret), but didn't go for anything. The other auction company that used to come to that same location didn't charge a bidding fee, but thier buyers premium was higher so it was a tradeoff. I am guessing that UsAmusements charges simply make a little extra cash. They also use it as a small perk for sellers, since they don't have to pay for a bid card. There's 2 different companies run auctions here and des moines and st louis are within driving range. Although I quit going to des moines because of the $5 bidder fee. I don't like it because it can't do anything except lower the prices I get.
