Arcade WARLORDS programmer

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone!

I hope this is the right forum for this post. Does anyone know who created the arcade version of Warlords? I know Carla Meninsky programmed the 2600 version. I was able to e-mail her and she believed it was Ed Rotberg but she wasn't certain because they were in different divisions. I couldn't find Warlords in any list associated with him.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

He programmed Battlezone the same year that Warlords was...so there might be a clue buried in the games (if they share similar coding technique). Both games used a 6502 processor...though Battlezone probably had longer R&D due to it's military application. Warlords is uncredited on the 'net as far as I can tell.

I know the default high scores belong to:

CGR, GSD, RFW

One coding technique that stands out in my mind (from when I disassembled the arcade ROM) was the heavy use of CLV BVC instead of JMP.

I get nothing on those initials. At least not in that order. Tho RFW has a partial match for Robert Weatherby (Atari arcade games, 1985...Xonox titles before that), and Bob Whitehead (Atari 2600 titles before and after 1980).

Yeah, I never could figure it out either. I had to wonder if the initials meant something else, or were intentionally mangled in some way. There has to be some Atari old timer who knows for sure.

You didn't see it in the arcade ROM? I'm looking at it right now (B8 50 XX)...

and it just goes on and on like that... The last one I think I found was at 7442. Some parts of the code don't do it at all (such as the sound and self-test code).

In Battlezone? Or Warlords? :?

I was looking in the Battlezone romset, since it sounded like you were referring to Warlords. Debug came up with nothing.

I was looking at Warlords (and not paying very good attention to the thread). :dunce:
