Time killers

Was Time Killers ported to classic consols?

I saw a screenshot of this game in the old issue of Gamepro. I'm not sure if it was a snes or genesis screenshot.

It was released on the Genesis really late. It pretty much slipped under the radar though.

I believe the Genesis was the only console to get a Time Killers port, and like Tempest said, it was pretty late in the Genesis's life span, around about the same time as Virtua Fighter 2.

I like Time Killers, despite its cheesy attempts to cash in on other gore-fests like Mortal Kombat. It fascinates me how the designers decided to clash beautifully rendered backgrounds with toon-ish, crudely animated characters, and then make up for the poor animation with a relatively complex method of fighting, where wounds and missing limbs are just as much of a factor as the life meter. The best part of Time Killers, however, isn't even in the game itself. The game has a richly detailed back story, with some of the most developed characters you will ever find in a video game. But to read the story, you have to have the game's manual. For whatever reason, the rec area where I worked was given several copies of the manual along with the game. Perhaps our distributor realized players needed something besides the bad animation to convince them to play the game!

Too bad, because I wish it had been spotted on someone's radar. That way, they could have fired a heat-seeking missile at it before it reached store shelves!

Time Killers on the Genesis is very, very, very, VERY bad. It makes the arcade version look like a masterpiece, and that's no small feat. It almost makes me glad that GameTek never got a chance to release the sequel, Bloodstorm, on the Sega Saturn (although part of me wonders just how that would have turned out...).

Yes. For the Genesis. That game was listed in a winter ces issue of gameinformer for gamegear, and the super nes in 1994. The genesis version was supposed to come out some in 1994, I believe or early 1995 not 1996. The other versions were concelled.

I remembered I played the Time Killers on arcade.

I'm not sure if it was a common problem the Time Killers arcade but I can get a free credit when pressing some buttons when the game's over. That happens once.

For a coin, I can play 2 credits on this arcade.

Agreed. Although the arcade wasn't really that bad. It's no Street Fighter II, but the idea of defending your life as well as limbs was a pretty cool idea.

Bloodstorm was released for the Neo Geo, though. Looking past the unholy amounts of cheesy gore, Bloodstorm was actually a really fun fighter for it's time. The first time I played it was at Hampton Beach in NH, and I got schooled by some kid who couldn't have been any older than 10. I assume that same kid now kills people for fun.

Hmmm...that's odd. I was going to find a link, however I'm not having any luck. I used to work at a movie store in the mid-90's, hence had the opportunity to read a lot of magazines. One of which featured some shots for Bloodstorm which was being released for the Neo Geo.

So I guess planned but never released? My bad. Sorry for the mis-info guys.

That doesn't seem very likely considering Blood Storm was made by Strata using a totally different hardware architecture, and SNK had plenty of other (and better) fighting franchises under their belt by then. I'm thinking it was just another fighter that happened to look like it, or have a similar name or something.

I seem to remember seeing Freon in the screenshot, but my hands are empty so I have nothing to debate with. At this point I'll have to assume it was either a farce/wishlist or I just plain read it wrong.

I really liked Time Killers in the Arcade. The limb thing was cool and it was even possible to 1-hit kill if said limb was the head!

That's the only way to beat Death--chop off its head.

Never heard of this before.

It found it was in my MAME roms, and boy I must say, this is a pretty fun fighter.

My fighter of choice: Rancid. Nothing beats lopping off body parts with a chain saw!

I also used Rancid. He seems pretty strong, but not too quick.

I wish I could remember his instant death move. I do know he does a horizontal cut with the saw at neck level.

Rancid did kick ass, he was the character I almost always used and I thought could get the one hit kill better than the other characters.
