The_Laird #3 Posted December 9, 2005 When I got my first 2600 for xmas from my dad with copies of Defender 2, Crossbow and Centipede. I just kept switching between the 3 playing constantly for days!
Sayton #4 Posted December 9, 2005 Well, in a sense it wasn't a gift (I've bought everything Atari myself), but my fiance took me to a comic book store where I got an Atari, game holder and 50+ games. If it wasn't for her taking me I would've probably never got those. So it was a gift kinda I guess.
snorlaxnut #5 Posted December 10, 2005 (edited) In 1984 I got a copy of Bowling, then a few years later I got Winter Games plus Food Fight for the 7800. Edited December 10, 2005 by snorlaxnut

oldgames #8 Posted December 13, 2005 Back in the early 80's, my wife and I had saved up to buy an Atari for each other for Christmas. It was a major purchase at the time as we were just starting out. We finally found one at Sears that had Pac-Man included. My wife's favorite game was Missile Command, but we didn't have enough money to buy the system and Missile Command at the same time. When she wasn't listening, I asked the manager if he would consider substituting Missile Command for Pac-Man as the pack-in game. To my amazement, he agreed!! He checked the price on Pac-Man and Missile Command and since they were the same he said "No Problem". Imagine her surprise on Christmas day when we opened the Atari and she found the Missile Command cartridge!! I'll never forget that Christmas!
Gregory DG #9 Posted December 13, 2005 My favorite 2600 gift was the actual 2600 I got for Christmas in 1980! I played Space Invaders until my brain hurt! Of course, I still have both the 2600 and the SI cart from that morning. Ah...
MattG/Snyper2099 #10 Posted December 13, 2005 Probably when I got the Kid Vid unit back in 84 for Christmas.
Lord Helmet #11 Posted December 13, 2005 Last year I got several AA Homebrews for my b-day. Coolest 2600 gift I had gotten since like 1981
keilbaca #12 Posted December 13, 2005 When I was home on leave, my neighbor gave me his atari 2600 and a good 80+ games. At the time I had only like 50 or so, so it really, really helped with the collection. I have his atari and joysticks still, and in my mind, its still considered his atari. I couldn't believe it when he gave it to me, I was like a little kid in a candy store.
Recycled #13 Posted December 13, 2005 Got my first 2600 x-mas of 1980. Christmas eve I was beside myself with excitement in anticipation.
Cassidy Nolen #14 Posted December 13, 2005 My woody four switch in 82. I remember seeing Freeway for the first time and not being able to contain myself (one level variation was I-495 (Capital Beltway; hey I know where that is [even at 8 I knew]) and I was hooked for many years to come). In 2002 we flew out to California as guests for the Atari 30th birthday party and I had Nolan sign it. It was, is, and will always be the cornerstone of my collection (arcades included). My wife regularly blows me away with gifts for the 2600. I would be hard pressed to pick a fav, but the Kid Vid or a boxed Marauder is WAAAAY up there. She also almost single handedly bought my Tigervision collection for me. Most impressive. C
+doctorclu #15 Posted December 13, 2005 My wife has no idea on where to start in collecting for me Atari wise. No idea what I have. Which is fine. I think my favorite memory was in 1978 I believe. I think 1978-1979 was just my favorite time in general. We got an Atari 2600 (Sears system) with Target Fun. LOL!! You know it may sound dorky, but those days of playing Target Fun and Combat against my sisters was just simply the most fun I'd had playing video games. It was the total experience of that time. My dad got a bit more cash at that time. A bonus at work that year. We experienced a beta recorder, Atari video games, and something I am still looking for... "Video Comics" on Nickelodeon when cable television was first starting out. They read the stories of Adam Strange, Green Lantern, Flash, and Mystery In Space, which I generally tend to collect today. I often say I am happy in my life, ever onward, would not go back, ect. But if I died and had to remain in a particular time of my life for the rest of eternity, it would have to be there. Spoon #16 Posted December 13, 2005 When I was in the first grade I received my first 2600 with a pack-in copy of Combat. My parents also got me Donkey Kong. There was some hardcore game playin' to be had that vacation. It was definitely my favorite Atari gift.
Mountain King #17 Posted December 18, 2005 Mine was my Atari I got Christmas of '83. My family didn't have a lot of money, but somehow I got an Atari 2600 (reconditioned with a touchy power switch which made frying really easy) and like 12 games. Combat Circus Atari Demons to Diamond Kangaroo Ms. Pac Man M*A*S*H Raft Rider Entombed Blueprint Demon Attack No Escape Gorf (purchased with Christmas Money) Close second was getting Raiders of the Lost Ark in my Easter basket one year. +FujiSkunk #18 Posted December 18, 2005 I think the greatest gift has to be my first Atari, given to me for Christmas when I was seven, way back in 1981. My first games were Combat, Donkey Kong, Defender, Outlaw, and Video Pinball. That started this whole shebang. Thanks, Mom!
Vic George 2K3 #19 Posted December 19, 2005 Just getting an Atari 2600 game system as a combined Christmas present for me and my brother back in 1981. It was followed by my sister buying Space Invaders for it about a day or so later. Nothing ever really seemed to top that ever since.
ATARIPITBULL #20 Posted December 19, 2005 I would have to say Pitfall, when that game came out, you could not get a copy any place around the Detroit area, but my dad found 2 copies left at a appliance store in Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit, I could not get my friends to leave my house after they played it. +Nathan Strum #22 Posted December 19, 2005 Pitfall! in Christmas of '82. My parents gave it to me, and I just thought it was so cool that they were willing to step out of their comfort zone, venture into the video game section of a local store (probably Sears), and get me exactly the game I wanted most. It would've been a lot easier to get me some socks or just pick up some random other game. I'll never forget that.
Tickled_Pink #23 Posted December 19, 2005 Has to be the 2600 itself in '82. Also got a copy of Berzerk that Christmas as well. Sweet.
