TOS14FX2.PRG

Recommended Posts

While studying my auto folder on my C drive, to review the boot-up procedure and add and change the order of things, I noticed this program(TOS14FX2.PRG) in the auto folder. It doesn't show anything on-screen regarding the loading of this program, so I didn't know it existed before. Obviously it has something to do with TOS 1.4, I assume a "fix" or "patch" of some type. I have TOS 2.5 installed in my Mega/STE, is this a patch for 2.5 to be compatible with programs written for TOS 1.4? Could this be why I haven't encountered too many(if any) software incompatibilities? Could this also be taking care of any incompatibilities for my 4 megs of memory (2.5 compatibility limit)?

From The Atari Compendium:

4.86 (Rsconf())

Rsconf() with a speed parameter of -2 will return the last set baud rate on

TOS 1.06 or TOS 1.04 with "TOS14FX2.PRG".

Hmm, TOS14FIX.PRG is listed on LGD's TOS List as a patch for TOS 1.04. I don't think it makes 2.5 compatible with 1.4, but I guess it could be feasible depending on what it does exactly. It makes sense for it to be a patch if it's in the Auto folder on the HDD.

As I wrote above it patches rsconf() call in older TOS, not needed for TOS 2.6

I'm still trying to figure out just what the hell you did write above, I can't make heads or tails of it, and unfortunately this post helped very little in explaining it. If you know what you are talking about, could you please try telling me again in plain, simple, english?!? Thanks.

P.S. I have the Atari Compendium on CD, so maybe you could direct me to the page you found this info? I might understand better if I can read it in context.

Well, it was installed in the auto folder of the built-in hard drive of my Mega/STE, which has TOS2.5. I don't know why anyone would put it into the auto folder of a Mega/STE if it's of no use to the machine/TOS 2.5, etc.

Thanks for your input as well, but so far you guys have only added more questions to my pile, instead of answers. But thanks for trying.

Ha ha! My web of confusion expands once more.

But no, really. I think Krupjak is basically saying you don't need it for TOS 2.5. Maybe someone put it there because they're a big fool who doesn't know the intricacies of TOS patches? :lol:

Good luck anyway!
