Super Mario Bros 3 E-Reader Cards

Recommended Posts

I think the Super Mario 3 e-reader booster deck thing is about the coolest gimmick I’ve ever seen. Very collectible and I love the extra levels, demos and spontaneous power ups that throw a fun (and optional) twist into the best platformer ever.

I know they never finished the series, but is there a list of cards made available in North America? Also, were there other Japan only cards that can be purchased or downloaded from somewhere?

Here’s what I’ve got so far, and I’m thinking this is it, though any help here would be appreciated

Series 1 pack

Series 2 pack

The 2 cards that come with the game

5 special cards that were apparently only available at Wal-mart for a limited time when the game was first released

Anything else?

I think you've got it all. I wish they hadn't shafted us on Series 3 and 4. And I never got the Wal-Mart cards. :(

That's all there is in the US for the game. Japan got a lot more. A lot more. But of course they only work with the Japanese version of SMB3. And they are very hard to find. C'est la vie.

I specifically looked on eBay for the Walmart version when it came out for the cards, and got lucky; someone was selling a copy AND both other e-Reader card packs in one lot.

The japanese SMB3 is different than the american one? Shit, I wish I would have known that, I would have grabbed one while I was there.

And in used game shops in japan, SMB3 is all over the place.

I was really looking forward to series 3&4 as well. What were the 5 cards from Walmart? More levels, powerups??

No, not really, just that the e-Reader cards only work with the specific region of game they are for. US cards only work with the US games, Japanese cards only work with the Japanese game.

One was a unique Airship level, which apparently rocks.

Yeah it does. Other than that though, there isn't much a few generic powerups that aren't all that necessary and a demo I think..

Does anyone know if the packs contain assorted cards or are they the same cards in each pack? There's a store still carrying them around our area and they have a few left.

Thank you! :)

They are all the same, in that the cards in the Series 1 pack at your store are the same as the ones I have and so on. If you are interested at all, buy them now. Next time you think of it, they'll be gone forever...

It says that the packs contain 8 Power up cards, 5 demo cards, 5 level cards in each pack.

I ended up accidentally getting 2 of the Series 1 cards I just think of more then 18 cards in a series. :) That, and they weren't *uber* cheap.

Now I just wonder if all the cards in each set of a certain series of Pokemon battle cards are the same since I got 2 packs of one of those too. :ponder:

The websites I looked at anyway weren't very specific and only had list of what was available for the E-Reader and not a full description of each.

None of the Pokemon card packs have different cards. I bought all of them for my Ruby game when they came out. It was a great idea, but Nintendo didn't market them well (naturally), which led to poor sales, which led to the whole thing being abandoned.

Nintendo comes out with a lot of great ideas, but if they are in danger of losing money on that idea, it quickly gets thrown out the window. They need to show some more conviction in these things. This is the only thing that worries me about their WiFi service and the Revolution. If an idea doesn't take hold quickly for Nintendo, the whole thing gets buried.

Indeed, same with the AC cards. Unfortunatley, the E-reader wasn't very popular here in the states. I loved it, but I think I'll be selling it on ebay soon.

I actually only spotted the Pokemon cards for the first time in a shop when I was over in the US last month. So I snapped all three sets up for $3 each.
