8th lutz #1 Posted December 15, 2005 What this is about is Ubisoft didn't make the game for standard Tv's. In Some parts the game is to dark to play. I see alot of people wanting their money back with alot of people not having HD tv.
sega saturn x #2 Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) I agree, I was playing the demo on what I think was an hdtv and holy shit was it dark. I couldn't even see where I or any of the T rexes were at some points. Edited January 22, 2006 by sega saturn x
jeepnut24 #3 Posted December 15, 2005 They stated the problem is only on SDTVs because the game was developed on HDTVs.
moycon #4 Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) I played it. I think it's pretty true to life tho. Everything lit up when lightning would flash. Go in your room and turn off all sources of light...That's what you'd be dealing with on a primitive island in a rain storm. Yeah it's sucks for game players though. Because you cant see. That's what dark does to a person. HDTV made it so you could make out a path...barely. Even myself playing on an HDTV, I was like. Its too frickin dark. Probably much worse on standard TV hu? Everybody screams they want more realism...just goes to show you too much realism sucks ass. That said the whole game was pretty, but kinda reminded me of Drangons Lair. Awesome visuals but so linear it was almost all eye-candy with brief interaction with the enviroment. Edited December 15, 2005 by moycon

moycon #6 Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) ..wonders what this knob labled brightness does...... 982898 Good point, I was playing on a set-up at Target so I could not adjust anything. Some games menu allow you to brighten the enviroment also. I'm guessing that's not an option on King Kong? Edited December 15, 2005 by moycon
Jess Ragan #7 Posted December 15, 2005 What game these days ISN'T too dark? Everything on the shelves these days is an equal blend of drab brown and depressing grey. JR
jeepnut24 #8 Posted December 15, 2005 What game these days ISN'T too dark? Everything on the shelves these days is an equal blend of drab brown and depressing grey. JR 983022 I agree with that 100%.
Zoop #9 Posted December 15, 2005 thats kind of funny considering every commerical i see about the 360 it talks about being able to see so much detail ,and here we are getting a game when you can't see anything. how ironic
Gregory DG #10 Posted December 15, 2005 Jeez, you'd think they would have tested it first on a standard TV before shipping it out. Don't they know that not everyone has an HDTV?
Clint Thompson #11 Posted December 15, 2005 ... this is the first I've heard of any problems with how dark the game is.... I thought it was just a quick one to help promote the game (in an odd kind of way) along with the movie and all.... (guess not...)

JR 983022 Not the Mario games but of course many people bitch that they are too bright and cartoon looking so you can't win.

Jetboot Jack #14 Posted December 15, 2005 Turning up the brightness won't help with KK - you just get a pale and hard to see image - the GAMMA is set up all wrong for SDTV, not the brightness... sTeVE

Shannon #16 Posted December 16, 2005 I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bigger difference between the gamma range on HDTV compared to SDTV. Sounds like something that can affect future titles as well. Kinda reminds me of the problems with certain early GBA titles as well as the current problem of certain games not looking to good on backlit gba's. Jetboot Jack #17 Posted December 16, 2005 Simple Solution - add Gamma correction to the OPTIONS page - job done sTeVE
IronMongeR #18 Posted December 16, 2005 Some of the textures used will make your eyes bleed as you try to determine what the hell you're looking at. Slimey ground? Cave wall? Swap? Water? Half the time you can't tell, and it's not helped by the fact that a lot of the fps parts have you running through narrow pathways.
ninjarabbit #19 Posted December 16, 2005 Is this game any good? On one hand it's getting good reviews but I hear it only takes 6 hours to beat with very little replay value and the dark graphics. Sounds like a rip-off for $60.
narutofan #20 Posted December 16, 2005 (edited) what's kind of ironic is this thing is competing with sony. it is making people see more of the benefits of hdtv so they go and get one. a lot of the time, it's sony. Ze_ro #21 Posted December 17, 2005 So I don't understand here... do HDTV's handle brightness and gamma and such differently than normal TV's or something? If so, wouldn't this be a problem with pretty much all games, or is this just a case of Ubisoft forgetting to test King Kong on regular TV's? I've never used an HDTV, so I really don't get what the difference is. --Zero
Shannon #22 Posted December 17, 2005 I'm not 100% but I think NTSC has limits in the brightness levels (the increments are larger), so that would probably be a yes.

dalton4life #24 Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) I have a non HD projection TV and some parts were too dark to see what's going on normal brightness. It was ok when I turned my TV's brightness all the way up. It's pretty impressive and some parts reminded me a lot of Jurassic Park.
