Buying a cabinet...

Looking into buying a cabinet. The best ones I could find are the Dream Authentics. I'm looking at this particular one http://cgi.ebay.com/Video-Arcade-Game-2-Pl...1QQcmdZViewItem

 

Does anyone have one of these cabinets, and if so, how are they? Are there any other quality cabinets out there? I'm basically just looking to play tons of mame roms. What do you guys think about the price? This is my first cabinet so any info on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

I made mine for about $400.

This is a very easy and fun project.

You definitely do not need to spend that much on it.

 

Buy a dead cabinet from your local arcade repair guy.

$50.

 

If you are lazy like me, buy an X-Arcade stick.

$150

If you make your own with all the trak balls, knobs, etc it would probably be cheaper and better.

 

Older computer (anything around or over 1.3 ghz will do)

Probably $50 at a tag sale. Just make sure you get a large HD.

 

19" CRT monitor

$50 - $100 at a computer show.

 

Paint and lights and anything else you want to add...

$50 - $100

 

Now get off your lazy ass and save yourself about $2,400 and buy yourself a nice

projection theater with 7.1 surround sound with the extra money.

Get thee to Build Your Own Arcade Controls and see what people have done there. Even if you do end up later buying one pre-built, you will be an educated buyer and probably get more for your money.
