Luigi301 #1 Posted December 17, 2005 (edited) I pulled out my trusty 520ST for the first time in a while to try out the floppy thing discussed in the "ST and Floppies" thread. It did the usual black garbage on screen, so I reseated the chips. It didn't work so well this time. Now I get just a blank gray screen when it turns on. I've tried reseating the chips again, nothing happens. I've got a 520ST with the 6-chip version of TOS 1.00(?). Womble76 #2 Posted December 17, 2005 Its possible that although the chips are fully seated the contacts have oxidised, my STM didnt recognise the floppy drive despite my pushing on the floppy controller chip. I had to pull chip out and reseat it, get hold of a ROM puller or be very careful with a flat blade screwdriver and lever the TOS ROMS out.

You can easily crack the case or break the plastic standoffs by dropping your computer on the table, even from only 6 inches. Only a stupid and lazy person does this. The best thing to do is to open up the computer and repair it, or have someone do it for you. Edited January 2, 2006 by TheAtariKing
