smf_4ever #1 Posted May 13, 2002 I have been doing some research on the programming of the VCS to write games. I must say.. there isnt alot of information out there (but what is out there is GREAT!).. I figure I have about two more years of disecting all this information on coding until I have a usable demo (I am a bright guy.. but I am realistic).. To take a break from my disecting of the code on Bezerk.. I sat and watched the Stella @ 20 vids again.. and now I am re-thinking this whole thing again! lol.. For the newer programmers (not of the late 70's early 80's computer work generation) are you as frustrated?? but still as silly as wanting to pursue it?? Oh.. tentitive tile "sun spots" ten. completion date - July 2004. (pending my wife letting me.. lol)
Mountain King #2 Posted May 13, 2002 Are those videos actually helping you?
smf_4ever #3 Posted May 13, 2002 with some minor things.. yea (like how dragster was done).. but mostly they frustrate me with the ease that they talk about the coding of the programs.
Cassidy Nolen #4 Posted May 13, 2002 Yes, I am equally as frustrated. I have done the hacks, and just want to see how stuff fits where. I am getting to understand the dissections, but not sure what I would go about changing in one. For example: could you somehow use a routine that draws a background from one game, edit it, and use it in another? Seems like you should be able to. Cassidy BTW, what is the Stella @ 20? Not familiar with it.
smf_4ever #5 Posted May 13, 2002 I am not far enough along to quote codes.. but on the other Q.. Stella @ 20 is a pretty cool documentary of the original atari gang from 1997. If you want. I can swing over one evening or weekend and let you take a look.. Cool tapes...
Chris++ #6 Posted May 13, 2002 Okay, I feel the need to interject some inspirational text here...(not to mention a plug for one of my own articles -- the Amiga references are a little dated now, but the rest continues to be true, as far as I'm concerned!). http://www.geocities.com/flynnwins/ocgs/is...6/tomorrow.html
smf_4ever #7 Posted May 14, 2002 Thanks Chris... that is well written. and point taken...
