Atari Video Computer System (1977) Atari Video Computer System (1977)Later known as the Atari 2600, the VCS brought video games out of the arcade and into America's living rooms. It was a snap to set up: Just plug the clunky-looking box into your TV set and grab the joystick. The Atari 2600 was the first successful console to use game cartridges, which allowed consumers to play multiple games on the same system and created a huge market for crude-looking but addictive titles such as Space Invaders and Pac Man. The Atari's games may not have looked much like Grand Theft Auto, but its influence can be felt in today's Xboxes, PlayStations, and GameCubes. AtariAge has more details. Pong, anyone? +remowilliams #3 Posted December 26, 2005 (edited) Yeah - TIVO number three! And Roomba made it in there too. Awesome! And the C64 got beat by the Trash80. Hahahah That list is kind of all over the place though. Edited December 27, 2005 by remowilliams
Agent X #4 Posted December 27, 2005 I saw that article. They had mostly very good choices on there, but I would've sworn I saw the same or a similar list about a year ago. It may have been a similar list with a lot of the same entries. I'm not too surprised the Jaguar didn't make the list. As much as well all love the "Big Black Cat" here, I don't think it had as much impact in the gadget world as so many of the other entries. There's only 50 spots on the list, you know. Great to see that at least one Atari product made the list, and it ranked very highly, too.
Gregory DG #5 Posted December 27, 2005 The fact that any Jakk's joystick is on that list proves just how screwed up it is.
deathtrappomegranate #6 Posted December 27, 2005 That list is wrong in almost every conceivable way.

Are you serious? Just what could possibly make the Jag among the top gadgets of the last 50 years???
8th lutz #8 Posted December 28, 2005 Why wasn't the Jaguar in there? 989535[/snapback] the Jaguar didn't that impact for making it. That list is screw up anyway. The Psp and or the Ds belongs on there. They look at Graphics first or something similar. Heck, you can make a case for the Lynx for being on there. It was the first system to have color. However, If the Jag would have had the impact that the 2600 did when it was supposed to be the next generation machine, it may have made the list but since the Tramiels screwed that up like everything else. Happy New Year!
