Okay I admit it the Generation Nex is junk.

Recommended Posts

Jagasian was right, when I hooked up the system to my TV it caused wierd TV interfernce *can't spell sorry* when I was watching cable TV it got all screwy looking, but when I unplug the Generation Nex out of my TV everything goes back to normal. Also you are right its nothing but a expensive clone that is cheap *not in price terms*.

So I made amends and bought a refurbished NES online for 22 dollars. Now I can't wait till I play it and see crystal clear video, sound and actually have all my games work *Castlevania 3 included*, etc.

Not really since I plug in my Generation Nex with AV cables to the AV ports and not on RF. All the other systems I plug in to it doesn't screw up my TV.

Also I heard it can destory your games, and I think I got a electirc shock one time with it too.

I meant radiated RF interference from the NEX, it wouldn't matter how you connected it to your TV if that was the case.

I doubt its more likely to destroy your games any more than other famiclones. Which is to say not very likely at all.

I'm sure you'll be enjoying that blinking light on the NES soon.

I'll keep safe and just use a real NES for now on. No more clones for me unless they are offical.

Edit: Its got a new connector, and the NES is fixed up. At least it will be much better then the game/games not working at all.

There are so many other ways to play NES games nowadays. Emulation is often more accurate than "clone" hardware, and more reliable than "real" hardware. Between the XBOX, GBA, Dreamcast, and all the computers that can do it, and the upcoming Revolution legit emulation scene, is it really worth all this bickering over which 8-bit hardware platform sucks the least?

My NES has the stock cart connector. I cleaned it and bent the pins back 3 years ago and it still works fine. People just need to remember to clean their games 100%, and clean the sleeves too, and sleeves are a must

Most of my carts are sleeveless, and they don't give me trouble.

Sleeves don't really do a lot, and I can't figure out a way that cleaning them would help anyways.

...

But the aesthetic appeal is nice.

I assume they would call it Generation SNEX to capitalize on the reputation and popularity of the NEX. Fortunately there is no particular demand for such a device, as the biggest problem with the SNES is that its plastic yellows!

Generation SEX? :ponder:

I seem to have very good luck with hardware.

My SNES is still gray, my original GBA is easily viewed.

On the upside, a SNES clone would likely HAVE to be fresh hardware. There's not a SNOAC that I know of(though there IS someone bootlegging the SNES).

My SNES stays stashed in my entertainment center, under the TV. It doesn't get a lot of sunlight and is still grey, just like JB's.

It wasn't just me pointing out the flaws in the NEX. So I give credit to everybody else that also helped point out flaws. Also, be careful when you get a refurbished NES. Not all vendors do a good job. Some even sell un-refurbished systems and claim that they fixed it when they didn't. Others use cheap replacement 72-pin connectors, which means your system might work at first, but will quickly have problems. As much as Omne and I disagree about the NEX, I think that you can trust his OSG shop to do a professional job at refurbishing toasters as well as selling fully working refurbished toasters.

Odd, was the NEX on at the time?  Maybe an RF shielding issue.

991658

The original NES, SNES, and many other systems used a metal shell inside the system that shields the entire system. Maybe the NEX doesn't include enough shielding. Considering that it is designed and built in China by the same people that make other pirate hardware, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the problem.

lacan's posts are a facinating read, anyway.  :D

Eventually, everybody will realize the truth, just as they are finally starting to do with the Nintendo top loader, which at one point in time was claimed to be the best NES system bar none. Then people apparently got new corrective lenses, contacts or glasses... maybe even lasik... and they noticed that the video quality sucks on the toploader.

I had high hopes too. I was following each and every development of the NEX from the beginning. Check out my very old posts to NEX threads on DigitPress. I was also an early adopter of Messiah's wireless SNES controllers, which I also had high hopes for. I still hope they come out with a second revision of the wireless controllers that uses a traditional plus-style D-pad, as the current D-pad is terrible, but everything else about the controller is great.

I turned against the NEX when I realized that everybody was being lied to and that the system was going to be nothing more than another NOAC based clone, re-packaged in a new plastic shell.

I wouldn't be surprised if they sold a SNES clone, as there are already pirate SNES systems out there. All they would have to do is create a new plastic shell, card board box, and hype campaign claiming that their re-packing of old pirate hardware is the next best thing since sliced bread. Some of the pirate SNES systems are not that bad, but others have inaccurate audio. The SNES has some great audio, so the bad audio sticks out even worse than bad NOAC audio.

My NES has the stock connector also. I got a replacement, but kept the original. It was extra tough to get the games in/out, and after a week, went back to blinking screen. Got back out the original connector, stuck 800 grit metal sandpaper, folded it in half, took about 15 min to sand it, works perfect. You can't even tell that the cart went into a cart slot at all, and it works perfect. Its super easy to get the cart in/out, and works perfect.

Besides, you can overclock the NES's. I got mine hooked up to a switch, one way is 1.8mhz (standard) the other way is 2.5mhz.

I'd be hesitant to point to that, as I'm pretty sure it had to pass FCC regulations anyways.

The other clones don't have to, since they aren't trying for a legal market in the first place. But the NEX IS.

Of course, the FCC might be letting "louder" products through than they used to.

I can say from experience that the metal shield is important on the toaster NES. An early project of mine involved a toaster, a Game Genie, a dremel, and a lot of ribbon cable. I didn't want to reposition the whole board. So I figured that I'd use the Genie's better connector and come up with a way to mount the connector in place.

It worked, but you got a crapload of little horizontal lines all over the picture, it didn't matter if you used RF or composite. I used tinfoil to try and simulate shielding and it turned out my wirejob was spraying noise all over the place. Who knew? I still have to build a proper shield for it.

Also, don't they make a spray-coating that can act as a shield. You wouldn't expect much, but I know that it exists.

Hex.

[ Now remembers that the via _must_ be given the desired signal name for it to route properly. . . ]

so  buy or no buy? YOBO? NEX?

http://store.videogamecentral.com/plnplwipopls.html

Anybody see this thing?

995750

Seems like it's been around for about a year. Here's a review: http://www.nesplayer.com/pirates/powergames.htm

They all have their flaws. The "wireless" pirate system you mention uses crappy infrared controllers and doesn't have good buttons. The Yobo and NEX aren't as compatible as a real NES.

I have a Yobo and like it well enough, but I prefer my NES on emulators nowadays.

I got my Refurbished NES days ago and it works much better then the Generation Nex, in fact I just pop it a game push it down and close the lid and the game works. Plus I can finally play Castlevania 3.
