NightSprinter #1 Posted January 2, 2006 Does anyone know how the controls work for the Stargate prototype outside of the standard "move" "fire lasers" and "drop smartbomb" features? I have a repro cart, and would like to know exactly ow one activates Inviso and Hyperspace. Tried every key out there and STILL can't get Inviso or Hyperspace working. Goochman #2 Posted January 2, 2006 Try a second joystick and see if that works - I think upon starting the cart you have the ability to configure alot of that stuff?? Been awhile since I started that one.

NightSprinter, How does Stargate look? Is the play anything like 8bit Defender? Edited January 2, 2006 by Almost Rice
NightSprinter #4 Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) It does play a good bit similar. Though the action is a bit slow and choppy (I can forgive it, as the game's a prototype). I like how you can configure your starting settings (kinda like "dip switches"). Overall it's not TOO bad, just needs a speedup on the choppiness in speed and some instructions on how to play the damn game. In reply to Goochman's post: nope, no luck at all. All I can do is move/fire with Joystick 1, and detonate a SmartBomb with the space bar. Edited January 2, 2006 by NightSprinter
Goochman #5 Posted January 2, 2006 What about Joystick 2?
NightSprinter #6 Posted January 3, 2006 Nope, no luck at all I'm afraid. Moving the joystick and pressing the buttons on controller 2 have done nothing.

NightSprinter #8 Posted January 3, 2006 Thanks Jeff, that worked. Guess playing this game is going to be a lot more difficult than I wanted. Ah well, that's how it is when you have more complicated controls.
birdie3 #9 Posted January 3, 2006 I haven't tried this yet. Is this any good?? I love A8 Defender.
www.atarimania.com #10 Posted January 3, 2006 I haven't tried this yet. Is this any good?? I love A8 Defender. Compared to A8 Defender, I think it really sucks. It's choppy as hell and the graphics are horrible and don't work at all... -- Atari Frog http://www.atarimania.com

Defender 8bit was one of the reasons to buy the 400/800 back in the day. If Defender was as choppy as Stargate, they would not have sold many. So who wrote the 2 ports. They look like different people programmed them. If the programmers are different people, why didnt they allow Defender programmer rewrite the Defender code to make Stargate? I really did need the Humans in the game to have moving arms and legs.

I remember reading somewhere (probably from Tempest) that he thought he had a faster version of Stargate somewhere. Allan

I guess this is why the game is only a prototype.
