dgob123 #1 Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) In growing my collection I have amassed about 10 intellivision II systems. Only one of them has the pretty orange racing stripe around the console. Are these rarer than the others? newer / older? compatability issues? Edited January 2, 2006 by dgob123
omne #2 Posted January 2, 2006 AFAIK the only diff is that stripe. I see both all the time too. To commonly to think it might be rare. Maybe a specific manufacturing run?

spacecadet #5 Posted January 2, 2006 Different factories for sure. 992776 Nah. You think Mattel had two factories in Hong Kong? (Look at the labels.) All I know is when my mom bought my Intellivision II in 1982, it had the stripe. I think there are probably two possibilities: a) the non-stripe models were sold outside of America, or b) the non-stripe models were a later revision to save money - seems counterintuitive the way the serial numbers on these labels are, but some of the earliest photos produced by Mattel of the Intellivision II (specifically the one with the Intellivoice, as seen here) featured the orange stripe. It's also the sort of modification manufacturers make later; they rarely *add* cosmetic features to consoles as time goes on, they almost always take them away to cut costs. Dumping all that orange paint definitely seems like it could have been cost-cutting.
Ralph3 #6 Posted January 3, 2006 The one I have haNO stripe and the 2600 System Changer has the stripe. Now I have to find one with the stripe now(like I need another Intelly!)
jaybird3rd #7 Posted January 3, 2006 I had both striped and non-striped versions, and they seemed identical aside for the cosmetics. I actually like the non-striped version better, so when it came time to sell one, that's the one I kept. Speaking of the Intellivision II ... the label says that it requires a 16.2VAC power supply. Is it really that picky? I'm running my unit right now with a 12VAC 1200mA power supply because it was the closest match I could find, and it seems to work just fine. jsoper #10 Posted January 3, 2006 Mine's the striped version, and my ECS has the stripe too. 993105 The stripe versions have a faster processor and will have less lag during driving games (it's supposed to symbolize a racing stripe). Try it and see. . . . . . . . . . John (feeling evil today)
