What system you collect more games then you expect

Recommended Posts

Sega Master System. I originally wanted wanted the master system for phantasy Star one after owning the other three. I though I could get phantasy Star and maybe 10 games for the system and thats it. I had no idea how good the master system was in games. I was aware of the system in the late 80's as a beginner in console gaming. I now have over 60 games. I could've got more games by now if I wasn't so closed minded in getting phatansy star and the system at the same time instead of getting the sms first a couple years before then I did. Before I owned the master system, I thought the nes was the best 8 bit console and the sms was an afterthought. I really underestimated the sms and though phantasy Star was the only note worthy game.

All of them, really.

I'd say the Atari 2600. I just wanted it to play the 3 or for games I had for it. Now, I have somehow amassed over 60.

the NES, without too much effort i've nearly a complete collection. i guess i got in at the right time, when you could still goto funcoland and grab titles for dirt cheap and the games were everywhere at yardsales and fleas. for some reason i find sega CD games a lot and they never cost much. just by luck i managed to get a large turbo collection. the only ones i ever set out to amass were the atari and colecovision.

Bingo. I just never got rid of the stuff I had, kept playing it, and bought stuff on the cheap at thrifts, garage sales and the like. When I got online (right around the time Atariage started as a site), I began to think of it as a hobby.

My personal three best 'lucky finds' systems are the Intellivision at 95 carts (75% of which are wild finds), Arcadia 2001 and Bally Astrocade. The last two I never thought I would ever even see, much less own with most of the games.

Actually, I never planned on owning anything other than the 2600. It never ceases to amaze me what a little persistence will do. I now have an entire ROOM full of classic gaming stuff. Crazy.

I think I what your talking about. The systems I have I just buy good games and thats how I got my collection expect for a few mistakes like the "awesome game" Heroes of lance for the nes-that is what gamefaqs called it or get games like 50 cents for 2600 games at a flea market stand before ebay. I know what getting into with my other systems but I never place amount of games due that reason except the sms. I got little known games like landstalker due to them being good or fun games despite the rating. That means no very rare stinkers.

I was surprised at how many Intellivision games I had accumulated, but then I went and sold all of the games that were on the Intellivision Lives! collection for the GameCube. (A bit short-sighted, I suppose, but I was never that into the Intellivision anyway!)

I'm suprised at how many NES games I have now, since i've never felt like collecting for the NES was worth my time. I was turned off by Nintendo's business practices in the late '80s, so I pretty much gave away my NES games and tossed my console in a box and forgot about it. But since I started thrifting and flea market shopping, i've been building up a decent pile of NES games, even though I don't have a lot of interest in playing most of them.

Nintendo 64, without a doubt. I set out to replace my Zelda games which were stolen.

Then I began to replace all the games I had traded off to buy my Dreamcast. Shortly after that, I went to replace some hardware I had broken (still need a blue first party pad) and then I realized that I was hooked.

Now I've got almost 40 titles, and about 1/4 of them are boxed. I've got three pads, three Ultra Racers, four Controller Paks (and as many more as I can buy), four Transfer Paks, two Rumble Paks, an Expansion Pak (which, oddly, was not stolen with Majora's Mask), and of course, the control deck. Every single piece of it except the Ultra Racers and the two Game Sharks was made by Nintendo.

Heh, the Dreamcast I had was stolen with the Zelda games, and I just replaced the last piece of stolen hardware. The only game that's still missing stuff is Virtual On Oratorio Tangram. I still need a box and instructions. Everything else has been replaced, and in many cases, with better stuff. All the Dreamcast equipment I have was made by Sega.

Someone offered me a third party Jump Pack today, and I told them I never bought third party hardware unless there was no first party stuff like it.

I kinda knew when I got my 7800 that I would get a complete collection for it--it is just a matter of time. All the games I lack are between rarity 2 and 5. I have all the NTSC 1's, 6's, and 7's.

Probably the Atari 2600. I seemed to amass 83 unique games (not including label variants and extra copies). I want to collect for every possible system I have, but it'll have to wait until later on in college when I get a 2-room apartment (takin' care of the "live at home" stuff while in college until I can make it to the point where I can finish up my degree going just part-time and taking a part or full-time job).

For me it definetly has to be the Intlellivision. Along somehow I now have 3 different Intellivision systems. The Intellivision, Intellivision 2, and the Super Video Arcade. I also have the ECS computer. And to boot about 47 games. Not bad for someone who is not that into Intellivision.

Game Gear.

I had really no interest in the system until I got a good deal for it. ($10 for a system + 5 games) Then Game Crazy had all of their GG games for $1 each.

Now I have 30+ games for it.

Agreed. Though I'm not a collector in the traditional sense. I love obtaining new consoles but don't keep my games in their sealed packaging and whatnot, I play them. I work hard for the little money I make and I'm going to enjoy my purchases to the full extent.

I've been noticing how many Sega Master System games i've been picking up lately. When I come across them cheap, and the names don't seem familiar, I can't help picking them up. I think I might have nearly 40 now. I haven't played most of them, because i've never found too much worth playing on the SMS. The one thing I do want for the console, though, is pretty elusive in the wild. I want the 3D glasses. I sometimes find consoles and even 3D games in the wild, but never, ever the glasses.

I'm at an interesting point in collecting/acquiring games. For the 2600, I have 220 or so titles and to be truthful, there are only 20 or so games I'd like to dump.

For the Sega Genesis, I have 450 titles and I'm just about finished acquiring (perhaps 5 more titles I'm going after) and I'm getting ready to start unloading. By the time I am done, I expect to retain about 200 titles, meaning I'll be unloading 250 titles.

Back in June of last year, I had no titles on any systems. I never expected that I would soon be spending my child's college fund on these stupid games (just kidding, just kidding). Now that I am firmly implanted in 2006 armed with resolutions (meaning defined purchasing guidelines), I can tell you that there are excellent games on both systems, probably a couple hundred that are essential for the serious gamer on each system.

Hope that helps.

PC. There's just so much stuff available that you can never stop collecting, so it won't be an eventually lost cause!

I got an Amiga CD32 and 7 games in an auction from a guy in Canada .A few of the titles i really wanted were in the lot,The guy who sold it me closed down his computer store and mailed me a list of 140 more titles he had .I made an offer for the lot and now i have 2 shelves full of CD32 games and non are doubles and there's even a proto CD in there and a kiosk only compilation.I like the system it's simple and has a ton of playable games without messing with floppies..Over the years i've also amassed 40 Master System games which also was not a plan.

I never wanted the damn thing to begin with, but I just can't get rid of it.

997087[/snapback]

I was afflicted with that for a while, a couple of years ago ... even went so far as to track down Wheel of Fortune 2, the PC Link and the Internet cart (and bought a USR serial modem just to try it out.)

Then I finally succeeded in completing the set when I scored a Compete.com link cable off of usenet, and sold the whole thing about a week later. I couldn't believe how much time I had invested in finding a dang link cable.

There was a time when a Game.com search on E-bay would bring up 3 pages of auctions .I see it's alot harder to find any now.The backlit (frontlit) version is very hard to find because it was only out in stores for a few months.I sold all my Game.com collection to a guy in Spain of all places.

lol I wanted to have a 2600 with 30 of the titles I most liked for it. I have over 270 unique titles now, and there's no end in sight.  :P

I've got to over 90 2600 titles but i can't find any more local that i don't have.Funnily enough i found 2 copies of Tooth Protectors in one summer but it took me 5 years to find Robot Tank.I'd buy single carts from Ebay but shipping charges make it no fun.
