Slim PS2 import mod options

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Considering a downsize of PS1 stuff which would mean I want to mod the PS2 to play my Japanese titles. Any suggestions how you/others are doing this? Is there any non-invasive options (ie. a disc or usb device) other than a chip/case mod?

Thanks,

Cassidy

There is the memory card exploit but I don't know how to get it on the memory card without swap disc or mod chip. I heard the exploit could be installed with a Action Replay but I never tried it. I think any disc method including AR would require some type of case modding. Breaker Pro and a flip top case mod worked for me.

This is what you want.

You plug the three little plastic bits in (doesn't invalidate your warranty at all), run the disc, and when prompted, stick the import game of your choice in. I've got it, and it works beautifully.

The little plastic widgets just hold down 3 switches that usually pop up when the PS2 lid opens - so with these in, the PS2 always thinks it's closed :)

Only games it won't work with are imports of dual layed DVD games like Xenosaga or God of War (although you can play your home region version of those just fine).

They do list a few US suppliers who will sell this to you.

note: There are versions of this setup that hold the lid of your PS2 open all the time, this set comes with both sets of widgets so you can close your lid just fine.

I dont think there is an option outside of a chip. I also dont think the mem card exploit works on the slimline. Ar max + usb will let you load cdloader.elf (cogswap wont work on slimline) which is great for imports if they are ps2, cdloader wont do anything for ps1 games.
