SS #2 Posted January 7, 2006 Good to see Combat getting some props that it really deserves! To this day, it remains one of the best two-player games ever.

Sayton #5 Posted January 7, 2006 WHAT!? No Space Invaders? As fun as that game is, and in a sense what it also brought to the gaming world, it should be on the list as well. No offense, but why is Spider-Man on there? And I haven't got my issue yet, but did they put Adventure in there just cause of it containing the first Easter Egg? If so, Space Invaders shoud be on there not only for it's pure fun, but for being the first "must have" game (oh, and wasn't there a shortage of coins in Japan when it came out?). That game deserves mad props.
Foxsolo2000 #6 Posted January 7, 2006 Actually I am with Sayton on that one. Where is Space Invaders? I was totally addicted to that game in the arcades and it had to rank as one of the greatest games of all time
SteveW #7 Posted January 7, 2006 Spider-Man? Spider-Man?? How exactly does that work? How did something like Spider-Man end up on this list, when there's so many great 2600 games they could have slotted in there instead? Spider-Man shouldn't have been on a "Best 1000 Games Of All Time" list, let alone a 200 list. I agree with everyone else, Space Invaders really should have been included. It was the first 'killer app', the first true arcade-to-console blockbuster.
Cybergoth #8 Posted January 7, 2006 Hi there! I agree with everyone else, Space Invaders really should have been included. It was the first 'killer app', the first true arcade-to-console blockbuster. Of course Space Invaders is included - The Arcade version, ranked #07. Well, the 2600 selections are debatable. I only like Yar's & Indy 500 of these... Greetings, Manuel
NovaXpress #9 Posted January 7, 2006 Adventure wasn't the first easter egg, but it was the first "RPG" type of game available to the mass audience and therefore was a watershed moment.
A.J. Franzman #10 Posted January 7, 2006 Adventure wasn't the first easter egg 995985 Then what was?
SteveW #11 Posted January 8, 2006 Wasn't the first easter egg in a Fairchild Channel F game?
Sayton #12 Posted January 8, 2006 Ah...just now read the list. I had a little something to drink last night if you konw what I mean . Anyways, this isn't the place for it so I'm not going to argue how that list is totally wrong IMO. I will say I'm at least happy to see SI was ranked on the list....but I'm VERY unhappy with some of those games that outranked Space Invaders (GTA 3!? C'mon!) And no, as far as history goes, Adventure contained the first Easter Egg (of course, this is from tons of stuff I've read in all my years).
SteveW #13 Posted January 8, 2006 I could swear that a Fairchild game had a hidden message in it a few months before Adventure was published. I think it was a game that would show the programmer's name on screen when you would press the controllers a certain way. The guy's last name is Glass, I recall. He used to go into stores that displayed the Channel F, do the control thing to show his name, then leave it.
ataridude81 #14 Posted January 8, 2006 I agree on the space invader's it should be on the list. space invaders sold atari's like super mario sold nes and halo sell's xbox.
NovaXpress #15 Posted January 8, 2006 Adventure wasn't the first easter egg 995985 Then what was? 995989 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...opic=59087&st=0 The first three easter eggs were in the Fairchild Channel F Demo Cart, Alien Invasion and Video Whizball. It seem to be undetermined which of these three were first. Adventure was the fourth easter egg on record.
Sayton #16 Posted January 9, 2006 WHOA! Interesting about Adventure NOT having the first Easter Egg. So if this is true, how does history get corrected or must people forever think Adventure had the first Easter Egg.
Brad2600 #17 Posted January 9, 2006 There are much better 2600 games that deserved to be on that list. Why no Tapper?

By throwing in some random Atari games it makes them look like more "hardcore" gamers. That's how I see it. No, Kool-Aid? I'm not impressed. Sayton #19 Posted January 10, 2006 Smiply because they are trying to look like more seasoned gamers. By throwing in some random Atari games it makes them look like more "hardcore" gamers. That's how I see it. No, Kool-Aid? I'm not impressed. 996975 Exactly! What REALLY gets me is they had some of their editors on G4 one time. It was on some stupid show and they were talking about the 10 worst games ever. Shenmue made number 2 somehow and some EGM people trashed it. Okay, so if it's just so freaking bad, why is it in the top 200 in EGM? I bet they never even played an Atari before. And I'm not just saying this cause I love the Atari, but there are TONS of Atari games that beat out alot of games on that list. Course, there are games on a lot of older systems that beat out alot of those games. But I think we should all look at the fact that most people who get EGM don't know what an Atari is probably (in the latest issue someone on their forum asked what Asteroids and Space Invaders were....how sad is that?) Or some of them do know what it is, but never played it, so they get a Hot Topic shirt with an Atari logo on it. Then EGM tries to be cool like that with those people and put in some Atari games on the list....can you tell I'm still sick by the way I'm talking or typing? supercat #20 Posted January 10, 2006 He used to go into stores that displayed the Channel F, do the control thing to show his name, then leave it. 996127 Such behavior, if true, would be very different from Warren Robinett's, and would justify IMHO Adventure's claim to fame in that regard. If the Channel F author was going into stores and exhibiting the egg, that would suggest he put it in for his own use, rather than for the purpose of having someone discover it. Many programs (games or otherwise) have back doors, cheats, and such that the author put in for development purposes but with the intention that they NOT be found. I would suggest that Adventure's Easter Egg was the first one which was designed to be "found" by someone other than the author.
ls650 #21 Posted January 10, 2006 how does history get corrected or must people forever think Adventure had the first Easter Egg. Well, at least it had the first commercially successful Easter egg.
