gulag picture radio #27 Posted January 10, 2006 (edited) I have to back up the choices of Warlords and Combat. Back when we used to have Atari house parties (with ten Atari "stations" going at once) those were clear favorites. Others that surprised me were games like Bowling and Superman. It turns out that lots of people in my age group remembered those early Atari games more than the later better looking releases, and so they wanted to play those text label releases more than anything. Still you've got to bust out Space Invaders and Missile COmmand that absolutely everybody had. And let me add my enthusiasm to showing off the new homebrews. It's great watching people freak out when I get out a spiffy clear cartridge of something that's been programmed within the last few years. People's expressions on that are great. If you have multiple systems, definitely have them hooked up to different TV's - that way more people can play at once, or a few folks can do solo games if they're not very good at the competitive stuff. The best thing we did at our biggest party was to have four "stations" each playing four player Warlords. At the end of the night we were able to crown The Warlord with some kind of prize (I think that it was a cardboard sheild or something). If you have enough TV's you may want to try that. bones #28 Posted January 10, 2006 Definitely Warlords, great party fun. Frogs and Flies is my personal favorite game to play while drinking, it can lead to some serious trash talk
yuppicide #29 Posted January 11, 2006 If you have a way to get ROMS on your Atari or make your own carts I'd suggest: http://www.atariage.com/hack_page.html?Sys...twareHackID=274 Indy 500 XE.. includes a bunch of new tracks.
ripjtk #30 Posted January 12, 2006 Steeplechase for more 4 player action. When playing Space War, for low tech hi-jinks, take pink or light blue construction paper with a strobe light in the dark: play theme music from Star Trek II: 'Khan: I'm LAUGHING at the superior intellect...' +kisrael #31 Posted January 15, 2006 Heheh, well if someone is thinking about homebrews, JoustPong / Flap-Ping has been one of the more popular New England Classic Gamer tourney games.... people get really into it if you do it tourney style. But usually Atari games are about nostalgia. THere was a big atari thing at the Coolidge Corner theater...I think my favorite was definately combat....they were playing it with long range bullets, maybe in stealth... variations I skipped as being "too tough" when I was a kid but it was hella fun now. And I always thought that the lower right hand corner player had an advantage in warlords, something to do w/ the geometry making a ball go in, do damage, but miss the king when hurled by the top right player.... King_Salamon #32 Posted January 15, 2006 I had some folks over trying out the Flashback and believe it or not... Hangman! It was more of a joke at first but when you take turns and with everyone drinking, eventually the words don't make much sense and someone gets a word wrong (and feels shame!) . Mind you, this is something you start up when people are well into the drunken state! LOL! Well time to get back to the Karaoke revolution party.. have more drinks... and everyone sings! LOL!
