Legend Of The Red Dragon?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there was a version of Legend Of The Red Dragon available for Atari BBSs? If so, where can I download or buy it? Thanks much!

I don't think there is. IIRC it was a PC only game (using Doors). Someone would have to port it to make it work on an ST BBS. I'd love to see LORD, Usurper, Trade Wars, and Falcon's Eye ported to the ST though.

I was afraid of that. Those are some great games you mentioned. I've got some really good ones on my BBS, IMO, but I'd love to have some of these "heavyweights". :-)

I've got:

Assassin

Thieves Guild

AFL Football

Reanimator 2

Dungeons & Dragons ST

Hackers 2

Final Frontier 2

Final Frontier 2 is one of my personal favs... :-)

Thanks for the reply.

Legend of the Red Dragon was originally written for the Amiga... an early version I understand. As for the ST, haven't heard of this yet.

Legend of the Green Dragon is a web version of the LORD game...

http://dragonprime.net/

Here is the page for Robinson Technologies, who made LORD...

http://www.rtsoft.com/pages/ourproducts_lord.htm

Hmmm... an bunch of interesting links (like how to convert a Joystick into a vibrator) at...

http://dev.upian.com/hotlinks/tag/oldschool

Anyway, apparently the original source for LORD was in Turbo Pascal. Anyone know where we can find a copy of that?

(Both Turbo Pascal for the ST and the source) ?

More about LORD...

http://www.rtsoft.com/pages/lordfaq.htm#2

(Questions of Seth Robinson the original creator of LORD)

"Question: Will you let me port LORD to (insert OS here)?

I (Seth) no longer own LORD, TEOS or LORD2. So even if I said yes, this doesn't really matter, as I have nothing to do with it. The correct people to ask live at www.gameport.com, please ask them or make a similar game that is different enough so you can't be sued.

Question: Will you release LORD under the GPL so I can look at the source? Will you send me the source?

You would have to ask the guys at www.gameport.com about this, they own the rights to LORD (and my other BBS games).. I do not have the source code to LORD in any form.

Question: Hey, Bud, how about slipping me a reg code for LORD?

How about going to www.gameport.com and buying it for $15.

Question: Seth, I bought LORD/TEOS a while back, can you go look me up and give me my reg codes?

This is a service www.gameport.com performs. The full user database was delivered to them and part of the agreement was they would replace lost codes. I personally no longer have the database or perform this service.

Question: I emailed the guys at Gameport and I have not got a response. Do something!

Ok, I sympathize, but there is really nothing I can do about this. I've only heard a few complaints and as far as I know everyone finally got their code, it just took some time. They are good people, really.

Question: What is the exact math used for the fighting in LORD?

Ok - it is pretty simple. HIT_AMOUNT = ( (strength / 2) + (random(strength / 2))) - defence;

If a negative #, then they missed!

This math was used for player vrs player or monster fights, but monsters had no defense. "

So the current link of the owners is currently...

http://lord.lordlegacy.org/

Apparently Michael Preslar is the current owner, and his E-mail address is...

[email protected]

I'll drop him a line and see if we can at least get some older code for LORD.

Big question... does Turbo Pascal exist for the ST?

Michael Preslar here, Lord (and lord2, and teos, and all of the Joseph Masters IGMS (teamlord, lordnet, lordcops, lordevent, and more))

doctorclu emailed me, and I figured it'd be better if I posted here so more people than clu could see what all is going on..

.....

Okay, so I wrote up this huge thing.. And it got larger and larger. Instead of flooding the message board with it, I've dumped it to a text file on my server.. 2 birds with one stone.. Can link to it from my website too.

Anyways.

Enjoy!

.....

Note: I probably wont be back to this forum unless someone (doc clu?) tells me to come back.. so let me know if I'm needed.

First of all, thanks to Doc Clu for sending that e-mail.

Second...it looks like the next step is finding if there is a Pascal compiler for Atari.

Then we can go from there...

I'd gladly loan my Mega STe to this guy long enough to at least complete a port, as far as the hardware goes - although I'm sure he could do it much faster on a TT. I just don't have one though.

What do you guys think about this?

Thanks for the response Michael. I have received responses from developers from nothing, rude, to very supportive, and I would say that is very supportive.

I think there needs to be an Atari port, and I have some ST systems that could be sent.

Of course, much simpler, we could probably code under ST emulation and that way Michael would not have to have a older ST lying around. Unless having one around would be an incentive, and then I am all for sending one. :D

So about Pascal... let's see how the other message I posted on that is coming along... Oh how nice, we had a version of Alice Pascal uploaded (that I currently have) and there is a mention that Pascal and Turbo Pascal are out there. (No surprise since the ST was a favorite computer to many programmers for years...)

Anyway, let's locate that Pascal compiler! :D
