StanJr #1 Posted January 11, 2006 Just picked this up today. I know it gets a really bad rap as being a piece of Gameboy poo, but I have to say, its not nearly as bad as the hype. Sure, Christopher moves about as slow as a video game character can (making jumps and such tedious and frustrating at times), and its mucho-annoying losing your whip every time you get hit, and the level design is a tad bit uninspired, BUT There are plenty of continues, the game is only 4 stages long (I'm on Stage 3), and overall I think it captures a little bit of the essence of what Castlevania games are about. We also must remember that this was an early GameBoy game, it was only on the cusp of the greatness that was to follow. I say not bad for a first go. Not great, not a classic, but not the piece of rubbish I was told it was going to be. Comments?
MegaManFan #2 Posted January 11, 2006 Considering this was one of the first 8 GB games I ever owned, and I've been a lifelong Castlevania fan, I'll agree 100%. I noticed it moved slow even as a kid, but I figured that was due to the limitations of the GameBoy and the fact they wanted to keep the animation smooth. I always found it fun to play and a good challenge, and it's got some of my favorite music of any GB game ever. Here's a tip Stan-o - some of the ropes you climb up don't end where you think they do. Keep climbing and you can find hidden rooms with power-ups and one-ups.

figgler #6 Posted January 12, 2006 THe rolling eyeballs make this one a hit in my book. Seriously though, the game is only subpar in retrospect. The other CV games for GameBoy are so much better that when you go back and play Adventure it seems lame.

NE146 #8 Posted January 19, 2006 Yeah there are a couple o' rooms with powerups you have to find. EGM showed em all in one issue I'm sure.. But anyway, Yknow I only finished this game last year.. and I bought it when it came out! It's friggin difficult. How? I popped a rom of it in an emulator and used save states to FINALLY see the ending. I did the same thing for Gameboy Contra. Ahhh redemption after what.. 16 years? shadow460 #9 Posted January 19, 2006 I have to replace all my Gameboy carts because Castlevania sucked so hard that it sucked 'em all in. I didn't like Castelvania Adventure very much. I expected something slick and fast like the NES Castelvania 1, but that just didn't happen. Not trying to be rude or nuthin', but I'm just not much for this game. Lord Thag #11 Posted January 21, 2006 You're kidding, people really dog on this title? I'm not much into the gameboy these days, but Castlevania Adventure was the game that made me get a Gameboy when it came out. Sure, it was kinda slow, but it was challenging, fun, and it was just long enough to make you feel it earned the money you spent. Later stuff was much better, of course, but that's always the case. Saying Castlevnia Adventure sucks is like saying the first Castlevania sucks because it isn't as good as number three.
Kid Ice #12 Posted January 21, 2006 It's one of the few GB games that I actually like. It's quite addictive. Actually reminds me of Pitfall a little bit. It's not exactly SOTN but it'll do for a GameBoy game.

There was a lot of stuff going on and my fingers moved pretty quick when I was playing it.

ILA2600 #16 Posted February 13, 2006 I had gotten past Castlvania Adventure 3 or 4 time using these codes!, but the game looks and plays alot better on a Gameboy Advance!! IMO!!!!!
JB #17 Posted February 13, 2006 I can't imagine why... Might look mildly better on a GBA with the right color pallete, but the same would apply to a GBColor. And play is identical on all GBs that can run it.
