panamajoe #4 Posted January 15, 2006 Tried it with a MemCard or AtariVox yet? 1000574 no, haven´t tried that yet... but games like STRATOGEMS or THRUST show what can be done on the 2600.
Brad2600 #5 Posted January 15, 2006 Agreed. It is a very decent game. Challenging too! I think it could be taken to the next level on the 5200 or 7800.
supercat #6 Posted January 15, 2006 (edited) I think it could be taken to the next level on the 5200 or 7800. 1000836 What would you have a 5200/7800 version do that the 2600 one does not? Only a few things come to my mind: -1- Instant-replay support without need for an AtariVox/memcard. Nice not to require the extra hardware, but not exactly a really big thing. -2- Slightly better gem colors, using 4-bit luminance instead of 3-bit. Again, nice, but no biggie. -3- Slightly better gem explosions. Again, no biggie. -4- The ability to have single wild gems appear. This one might be nice. There would be ways of doing it even on the 2600, but it would be tricky to have the wild gems flash uninterrupted during the reaction of other gems. Not completely impossible, but more work than I wanted to get into right before Christmas. What else? Edited January 15, 2006 by supercat
Brad2600 #7 Posted January 15, 2006 Here's what I can think of: 1. The ability to rotate gems 2. Possible high score screen 3. More color combinations That's mainly what I can think of. Otherwise, the gameplay is solid and I wouldn't change too much else.
supercat #8 Posted January 15, 2006 2. Possible high score screen 1000900 Get an AtariVox or memcard. You'll not only get a records screen, but the attract mode will show the plays with the deepest combo, the highest-scoring combo, and the combo with the highest unmultiplied single-"event" score.
