Japanese Game System's

Recommended Posts

Anyone into classic Japanese game system's ?

I started building up a small collection because since I was a kid I always wanted a Famicom and Doki Doki Panic when seen in Nintendo power.

I have the Nintendo Famicom first version with square buttons controller, sadly its a little yellowed and dose not work like most first version Famicoms but I have the box and the disk drive that works with box too.

Also the Sega SG-1000 and Mark III that work but un-boxed. And last the Japanese Atari I shown before. I think it works but only tested the power, its un-boxed as well.

Not in the photo Is the Japanese Sega Saturn and (not japan but) Nintendo USA Hong Kong system that is box and I have two of. That looks odd because its got gray and no black near controller ports.

Does wanting them count?

I would love to get a Sega Mark III, so I could hear the FM-synth enabled games the way they are supposed to sound!

You've got some nice looking stuff in that photo. The Atari 2800 is something I would love to have, though it's obviously an American system in Japan...

I would also love to have an original Famicom and a Famicom disk system. I'm planning to go again in October and hopefully I'll have both the money and space in my bag to pick one up this time (a Famicom, at least). If I can still find one, anyway, but I'm sure I still can if I scour used stores. Last time I went I picked up a JVC V-Saturn, the time before I got a NIB Derby Stallion Limited Edition Saturn (one of the models more commonly called "skeleton" Saturns here). But I always end up leaving a ton of stuff behind that I really want. Once, I found a boxed Neo Geo AES for 3800 yen. Last time I found a boxed original Famicom for 2800. The first time I went, they were still selling new top-loader Famicoms for 2800. I just couldn't carry these systems on the plane (I had too much other stuff) and didn't feel like shipping them.

I have bid on Sega SG-1000's on Ebay a couple times but I never win. I guess I don't want one enough to bid what it's really worth here.

You can find a lot of Japanese systems on Ebay here now from sellers in Japan, but they always want ridiculous prices and charge ridiculous shipping fees. I'm not gonna pay more than $100 total for a Famicom when I know I can buy a perfect one in a box for $25 next time I'm there.

I also have a Japanese Dreamcast, a Japanese PS2 and a Japanese GameCube... but no real classic systems, unfortunately. I've just been biding my time, though, knowing that the next time I go I'm gonna bring an empty suitcase and blow a huge wad of cash. (Last time I went I did spend $700 on game stuff, but it was mostly small stuff like games because I didn't have a lot of room in my suitcase. I ended up selling half of it and making all my money back! So I basically got to keep the other half for free.)

I was lucky enough to get a good SFC collection and system from a japanese woman i worked with, then had the good luck to score 35 more SFC games for $30 bucks from a guy at a flea. I also have about 25 japanese saturn games mostly from trades, and a system. I picked up a few japanese megadrive, PC engine games and some famicom systems. its all pretty random but its cool stuff, sadly a lot of the games are sims or RPGs which i cant make heads or tails of.

No worries. Doki Doki was released here in the states too. Except that it had Mario in it. :o :)

(Who ever thought that one up, anyway? Doki Doki was not what we were expecting for a Mario sequel.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the FM Synthesizer an expansion for the Mark III?  I remember having read that at old-computers.com

As I recall, It was an expansion for the SG3000, and it was built-in on the Mark 3.

In Japan Mario 2 from USA (Doki Doki Panic) was sold in Japan with Mario as "Super Mario USA".. I played the Japan Mario 2 on SNES Mario all stars called lost levels.

That was such an amazing coup for Nintendo, too. They gave the Japanese market even more Mario, while the American market thought that Nintendo had dug up some amazing levels that had been lost in a closet for the last decade. If I didn't admire how they pulled it off so nicely, I might actually be mad. :)

Nope, the FM unit was an add-on for the Mark III, and it was built-in on the Japanese Master System.
