Why are 2600's going for so much?

Recommended Posts

It just goes to show that systems that look nice and are presented well will receive more bids and sell for more $$. I'd like to sell a couple systems for that price with those common carts!

Hint to sellers... don't sell a system with carts that have ripped up labels and a dusty console. Spend a few minutes and make $$. Actually... sell your dusty systems and I'll buy them low, and then I can sell them high! LOL!

Ahh but that one wasn't as 'pertty' as the other one. Looks make a huge difference to new buyers and quite a few veteran buyers. Sex sells and when it comes to Atari systems, good looking and clean is sexy! LOL!

Maybe the secret was some Armor All! Give it that amazing shine! LOL!

Someone who goes through the trouble of making their auction page look good is probably more likely to be serious about selling their merchandise and more likely to pack it well, than someone who produces a web page that looks worse than a pile of manure. To be sure, there may be some bargain-hunters who seek out horrible-looking pages because there's apt to be less competition for those items, but they may have to be willing to deal with bad service.

Frankly, I'm puzzled by why people even bother selling stuff on eBay themselves if they're not going to make their page look good. They'd be better off giving it to one of those consignment places.

While I don't disagree with you that presentation is key, sometimes presentation only matters for the first bid. Some people after that decide "I'm gonna get THIS one no matter what!" Instead of look for a cheaper one or searching out a better looking BIN auction, they get it in their head that they have to have this certain one.

Personally, I wish I could sell an Atari with a bunch of common games for that much too! :D

Man, it's not just 2600 items. Check out this 5200 auction!

And, to think, he could just BIN this one...

Ah, eBay.

Man, that is a nice looking BIN on that one. You know what's funny about both of those? Frogger. The newbies love getting that one. I sold a couple of systems with Frogger in it for a lot more than I thought I would. I'm going to start always including it in my auctions.

That's a pretty good idea to include Frogger. I think people like it because it's a classic, and there's even that Seinfeld episode about it...

I almost surprised that BIN is still up there--I seriously thought about it, but I just bought this guy and still need to unload some things that I don't need (I wanted the Atari Video Cube, Beamrider, and Return of the Jedi carts). Maybe a bit too much, but it went to charity. :)

Does the two port 5200 still use the same switch RF box as the 4 port?  If it does, that 5200 ain't complete man :)

No, completely different. The 2-port is powered by a different power supply and uses a regular RF switchbox.
