+SpiceWare #2 Posted January 19, 2006 I wouldn't recommend using it on a plasma or CRT projection set as you'll most likely burn in the game image. An LCD or CRT non-project would be OK.
Lord Helmet #3 Posted January 19, 2006 I use mine on my projection TV all the time. As long as you don't leave it on one screen for a long time (aka leave a game on overnight) you shouldn't experience any screen burn. The screen will appear streched out, unless you view it in 4:3 aspect ratio (like a standard television) This will put black bars up and down the sides of the picture, but it will not be streched (like a 16:9 ratio would do). PacManPlus #4 Posted January 19, 2006 Hi: I just got a plasma 42" Hi-Def Plasma TV, and I recently took my 7800 (composite modified) off from it because the picture looked *horrible*. It seems anything other than the native resolution of a Plasma TV (mine is 1024x768) does not look good (they don't tell you that part). Kind of looks like when you capture a video where the bit rate isn't fast enough - artifacing everywhere. Actually at first, everything (except the PC) looked horrible. I even called the company about it. They were no help. I found out myself that once I changed the DVD player to broadcast in 16:9 aspect ratio, the picture looks like it should. Now to change my DirectTV receiver to Hi-Def (Which means replacing the dish on my roof) My 7800 looks great on my standard 32" TV, though Bob

On a good plasma with a good scaler, the video should look fine. Here is some Pitfall (svideo modded 7800) on a plasma set Edited January 19, 2006 by remowilliams
A.J. Franzman #6 Posted January 19, 2006 Nice picture, but for better results, don't use the flash when taking screen photos.

That's the enhanced 2600 sun graphics version of Pitfall That was taken a while ago, and I think due to the lighting we had to use the flash Edited January 19, 2006 by remowilliams
supercat #8 Posted January 19, 2006 You shouldn't be having that problem. On a good plasma with a good scaler, the video should look fine. 1003116[/snapback] I think the issue is not the scaler, but rather the composite video decoder. The composite video output from many home computers seriously violates the broadcast video spec. It does so in a fashion which tends to yield reasonable results on most 1970's and 1980's television sets (and even most modern analog ones) but some DSP-based chroma decoders have no idea how to really handle the signals. My guess would be that they may have optimized for the Apple II.
Clint Thompson #9 Posted January 20, 2006 I refuse to play my flashback 2600 on anything other than on the 53" HDTV. The image is just so, Hi-Def! 1. Yes 2. Already Posted 3. No... the real thing is always better.... * you should know this *
