Any game store owners here? (Canadian)

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if there are any Canadians on here that own video game stores, or at least stores with a video game section.

Is there a secret code or handshake to finding a good supplier of current gen games?

Where are ya elephantstyle? In Winnipeg there are some decent places... Video Game Heaven has pretty much everything although mainly Nes and newer but occasionally has some classic stuff. There are some fleas but they've been cleaned out over the years!

Helps to know where you are though... maybe I can let you in on the secret handshake... but then again, maybe not! :)

He wants current gen games, not the classics...

Good luck on that one ElephantStyle, there is no money to be made on current generation games.

Unless you are Wal-Mart... or willing to purchase 20 or so copies of each game... you'll have a hard time getting current product.

Nik's right... there's no money in current gen software. Friend's of mine had computer/video game stores that have dried up over the past 15 years. PC could still make a go of it but with the amount of PC games being slow in release there's just not enough to run a store on it.

Now... if you wanna run a good profit... open up a used game store. Buy games from the public and sell them. There's a huge mark up there... especially when someone walks in with an XBox and 25 games and he wants cash for a 360. You can offer him $150 and they're happy. Mainly because EB would only give the guy $100 in trade. Then over the next few weeks you have a nice little stack of games to sell for about $500! I should get into this! LOL!

Used games would be my bread and butter for sure. But I would still like to aquire brand new games for sale as well. I realize there is little to be made on them when new, which is why I will happily buy those same games back for selling as used.

I'm not looking to get rich. I'm retired and financially secure. Its just something I've always wanted to do.

How can I find wholesalers?

Most of the wholesalers dried up over the years. Ever since small chain video stores stopped buying from wholesalers and went to Wal-Mart for their rental games (or in some cases stopped renting games altogether) the wholesalers dried up. Sad but true. You'd be better off buying from Wal-Mart and selling for the extra dollar or two. It may be worth it for one or 2 games to get customers in the door but I think they'd lose interest when you don't have much.

Still a tough go of it though. :)

I really DONT recomend using that site. Most of there members are dumb as a stick, probably set you back more than help you out. This is truely how I feel but if you want to waste your time go ahead. Also that whole Wal Mart effect will kill ya, but all the power to you for trying to get into the current gen market. best of luck in your venture.

Takes me about 2 seconds on that page to see exactly why I feel this way about that site. Don't get me going on this one cause I try hard not to say exactly what I think about that site. Leave it at I have provided an objective opinion that is agenest that site and not for it.

Understandable. I actually kind of agree.

I just figured I would attempt to help this guy out and introduce him to a Canadian video gaming collector's site. You never know.. He might feel right at home there. By all means though. If someone can suggest something more along the lines of what this person is looking for, please tell us.

That site sucks

Says the poster boy. :D

1004353[/snapback]

fanboy\posterboy its all the same to me.

EDIT: but mind you my post count here at AA has gone threw the roof sense washing my hands of the "other" video gaming sites. So I supose that was a bit of a hipicritical coment. Although I must say I enjoy my time here at AA far more than I have at any other board. Last time I was able to enjoy a message board this much was back at the end of the BBS days and that was long ago, so I guess I should just apprciate AA for what it is and possibly not be so critical of the "lesser" (personal opinion here) sites out there that try to be about video games. I think the real calling for me here is thew main idea of AA is discussion of Atari and most the timne it stays at a pretty mature level which I enjoy also.

No they're not, generally it's a good idea to offer fair prices on trade-ins unless you want to be known as "that rip-off store". If your only in it for the money then feel free to be the bad guy, but don't expect a lot of repeat customers or positive word of mouth recommendations. There's enough of those type of stores out there, we don't need another one.

That sucks shawn, I have no clue what your problem with that site is, but from what I saw of your posts of arguments on other sites like DP, you seem to be pissed at alot of people for whatever reason.

I just didn't see any of it at CGCC.

Oh well, good luck!

BTW sorry for disrupting this thread!

CGCC is not even worth the waste of time to post how I feel\felt about the non-sense they go on about. You didn't see any drama from me at CGCC cause I made the choice just to wash my hands and be on my merry old way. I was just throwing it out there that it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but like it was already mentioned it could be just the place a different person was looking for.

Glad you won't be posting about it any longer.

As for me I reccomend CGCC, never met a bad person from there, except one it seems.

Thanks again for your reason Shawn, it's enlightened me!

Excuse me? Fanboy?

Here's the definition of a Fanboy:

A person who is completely loyal to a game or company reguardless of if they suck or not.

I see you as completely loyal to Atari and nothing else. I'm not saying it sucks; Atari is awesome. But that's all you seem to care about (which is fine, just don't call me a fanboy).

What do want to be excused for did you fart? I said fanboy and posterboy mean the same thing to me personally. I was refering to the CGCC and not any type of company or corperations involved in gaming. I also stated I was making a hipocritical comment, my apoligies as it is clear both words are different to you where as they are the same to me. My bad, guess I need a new dictionary.

EDIT: P.S. I write stuff for the DC also I just don't talk about it. Like me being one of the first to selfboot Neo Geo CD's on the DC. Look on the web you will see I am clearly credited for it in the DC community.

I like CGCC, and DP, and AA, and NEO-GEO.com forums. CGCC.CA is the best Canadian forum for Anglophones, but there is another one that is mainly francophones as well. CCJVQ

I have had good experiences and unpleasant experiences at all of them. Those experiences have everything to do with posters, not the forum.

Each is moderated a little differently, and the price of admission is simply playing by the rules. Get a feel for the place an enjoy. Easy.

I've seen threads and posts that got people banned at DP, here at AA, and at the CGCC. The 'ban-ees' always failed to manage to live by the rules of the forum.

If you don't like a place, or don't like it's rules or moderation, why be there?

Silver Surfer has it all figured out now.
