We had this running on a PSP at JagFest UK back in October and it was pretty cool. It didn't seem to include any of the really hardware intensive games though like STUN Runner, Pit-Fighter or Hard Drivin'. It did have Blue Lightning though and we put it side to side with my very own Lynx 2 playing it at the same time. Strangely the version on the PSP was missing the music but apart from that we also noticed the colours were a bit off and it was noticably slower than the Lynx but a good effort none the less. I'll stay with my Lynx for now :D

I spent a few minutes reading the PLynx forums and it looks like the author has released several new versions this month and that he's making significant progress in faithfully emulating the Lynx. Might be worth giving another try. I haven't tried it yet on my PSP, but will do that soon.

finally a reason for this DS owner to be jealous.  Does the current version run at

full speed?  Can it do Warbirds?

Warbirds works perfectly. Boy, i love the the Atari Lynx. I have many roms on my PSP, however the sound is yet not perfect. Although it is very near to be perfect.

Anyway, here is what the PSP can do when it comes to homebrew emulators:

# Amiga 500

# Amstrad CPC

# Apple II

# Atari (800, lynx and others)

# Atari ST

# Chip8

# Commodore 64

# Gameboy Color

# GBA

# Genesis/Megadrive

# Images

# Macintosh

# MAME

# MSX

# Neo Geo

# NES

# PC Engine

# PC-9801

# Playstation

# Playstation One

# SCUMM

# Sega Genesis/Megadrive

# Sega Master System

# SNES

# Vectrex

# Windows

# Wonderswan

# X86

# Yabasic

# ZX Spectrum

My favorite is the Atari ST. I cant tell you how perfect this is.

Hmm, I wonder how this one compares with Handy for the GP2X. I'll have to check it out.

but which bios revision do i need for psp homebrew stuff?

1005331[/snapback]

Unfortunately 1.5. Luckily i have that version. If you dont have a PSP, and you plan to buy one, make sure it has the following firmwares (bios etc.)

1.5

1.51

1.52

2.00

If it is higher than 1.5 and lower 2.01, then its possible to downgrade without harming your PSP. Unfortunately, noobs always buy 1.5 paying a lot of money. If you have brains, seriously, its not hard to downgrade, ive done it many times. If you buy a 2.00, you probably save much more money, (and i can help you downgrade it!)

No... it's faster! If you crank the PSP up to its maximum clock speed, the games run faster than they do on an actual Lynx.

I was stunned with the quality of this emulator. It's not the first time a Lynx em has been attempted on the PSP, but this one is just so much better than the port of Handy. Unparalleled speed, accurate gameplay, lots of customization options, a high rate of compatibility... even halfway decent sound in the latest release. You just couldn't ask for better!

For the record, though, there are a lot of emulators on the PSP that aren't of the same quality as PLynx. In fact, the Game Boy Advance actually has a better Game Gear emulator than the one currently available for the PSP, despite the huge difference in clock speed.

Emulation on the DS is a good half mile behind what you'll find on the PSP. There are a couple of promising projects, but the Coleco emulator is buggy and the Vectrex emulator runs at about a third of the speed of the actual system. The designer of both emulators assures me that they'll be improved by the end of next month, but even after that happens, the PSP will still have a definite edge when it comes to handheld emulation.

GP2XHandy is running many games with sound at full speed (but not all yet). Though considering it was released five days ago, I think that's pretty good ;)

I've been having a blast with Battle Wheels on the GP2X :D

You know.. for some reason I seem to remember the Lynx (or was it the Gamegear) emu running on the PSP as being within a small window. I didn't check to see if you could make it full screen or not, but I but I'd imagine you could.

Anyway as a Lynx owner from it's launch (would you expect any less? :D) it'd be interesting to try this again if it's as good as some of you say... looks like I got a little project tonight after my studies :P

I just tried out the PLynx for the PSP. The latest release for firmware 2.0 using the fanjitas loader is really amazing. California Games is more playable with the _analog_ joystick than it is on the real Lynx.

Lemmings shows only title screen, intro and selection. The game won't start.

It does not support any images created by the new cc65 tools (yet).

It does not support homebrew *.o files (yet).

It does not support *.lyx files either only *.lnx files.

And there is a good possibility to add WiFi support to create wireless ComLynx connection.

I love the Lynx.  I have a PSP and a DS but the bad news is that I have version 2.60 on my PSP.  Should I purchase a new PSP with a lower version number or wait until they crack the new firmware?  Whats you guys thought?

The GTA exploit is going on very well. I would buy a copy of GTA and wait. According to some posts fanjita has managed to remove all memory allocs of GTA already so it is very likely that homebrews can run on 2.60 within weeks from now.

The cool thing is that as long as you have power on you can flip between Lynx games and other homebrew things without having to go through and strange maneuvers. If you start going on with the homebrews check out Sudoku also. It is the one that appeals to me while i sit on the train. It is short enough and it does not attract peoples attention as an action game would. Besides the PSP homebrew Sudoku allows you to listen to your own soundtracks while you solve the puzzle.

Well. The 2.60 loader is now reality. The beta was just released by fanjita.

And the PLynx released a new version of Handy that allows you to run your own compiled results on the Sony PSP.

the Plynx is pretty sweet!

You just have to remember to adjust the clockspeed of the psp from within the emulator. Most games 265mhz (´cause at 333mhz the games start running to fast).

the Lynx games look fantastic on the big psp screen, the controls works nicely and the psp is not undersized as many complained the gba was. Even the slick black design and "too powerfull, expensive and batteryconsuming" image of the psp reminds of the lynx image back in the days :) With improved sound emulation, supporting ALL games (most run by now) wifi multiplayer, normal screenmode and lynx lcd emulation screenmode there would not be a need for a "lynx III" anymore

Besides there´s no loading times playing with the lynx emulator and much longer battery life as the lynx emulator + games are on the memorycard and not on a um-disc.

I really like my DS (and its humorous game & watch design), but if you´re into Lynx or oldschool gaming, PSP is definitely the way to go because of the many great emulators that runs on it.
