Nintendo Penguin #1 Posted January 27, 2006 Are the black Sega Sports Edition Dreamcasts worth anything? I have one that I gought back in '98 cause it came with some sports games. I am not really a "Sega guy" so I don;t know too much about them. All I know is I never see used black ones for sale.
jetset #2 Posted January 27, 2006 By the fact that I own one makes them not any more valuable. Seriously...$5, maybe $10 more than the standard white units. As always (insert cryptic response here) check ebay and see how much more they go for. My guess is not much.
pmpddytim #3 Posted January 27, 2006 I agree with Jetset, not really worth that much more. The US never really gets any of the cool Console exclusives. -Tim
Starscream #4 Posted January 27, 2006 The controller is probably more valuable than the system.
goatdan #5 Posted January 27, 2006 I'd say it's around $10 - $15 more than the standard model. It is rarer than the original, but the addition of that Sega Sports logo seems to make less people want it. The controllers are worth more, as people like to try to get a set of four for their Dreamcasts. Having said that, they aren't worth much more.
dalton4life #6 Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) I just saw a black sports dreamcast with 3 games and the system box sell for about $40 with $15 shipping on ebay. I was thinking about it because I want a box for my black dreamcast. So no they don't go for much more at all. I'd give you something for the box (possibly a trade?) if you still had it and didn't mind splitimg it from the console. dalton4life #8 Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) usually the black version dreamcasts crap out. lasers get shot out easily. 1007810 Really? I found it to be the opposite. I've had 3 white one die on me but my black one is hanging in there. Plus it plays CD-R. My last white one did not. And it gets plenty of use, my son plays it al the time and I've had it for several years now...
n8littlefield #10 Posted January 27, 2006 I bought a black one awhile back because I knew they all were able to run CD-Rs. I got alot of compliments from people that didn't know that version existed. I paid the same as a white for it (it was from Gamestop back when they carried DC) but I would say $5 - 10 more than the white ones on ebay.
christianscott27 #11 Posted January 29, 2006 over the course of time they will be worth a good deal more than the white ones, just as the variations of the N64 will. right now both consoles are at a low point, no kid wants them, they're too close to the current gen for nostalgia and they seem to be everywhere for $20 or less. in 5 years or so when obsessive types like us begin to collect that generation hardcore they'll be considered rare. think of where saturn collecting is at now, thats where these machines are headed. Artlover #13 Posted January 29, 2006 they're too close to the current gen for nostalgia 1009146 This only holds water if you don't consider the Dreamcast to be current generation. AFAIC, it's not outside the scope of what could be considered current. It's definitely not previous generation, as it's more current generation then it's not. Most I'd be willing to conceed is it's own classification of generation just barely ever so slightly previous to the current.

My 1st Dreamcast played CD-R and it was white but it broke. I knew when buying for my current Dreamcast that all black ones played CD-R. I didn't have to check a date on it. Plus the black made it look cooler.
