dalton4life #1 Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) I enjoy fighting, sports, driving, action/adventure and some FPS & RPG thrown in there but if I had to chose one it's survial horror. I enjoy games so much more when they scare me some or at least make me jump a little . Edited January 27, 2006 by dalton4life
Smiley #2 Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) My fav genre has gotta be rpgs, especially old ones for the snes. I still play Chrono Trigger; Earthbound, etc on my snes even today.. Other than that I like: platformers, both old skool and current and I also enjoy survival type games like the new resident evil 4 (which I just statted playing), but my fav game of that genre would be Silent Hill 2 for ps2. and hate sports titles..I'd much rather play the real thing. Atarifever #4 Posted January 27, 2006 (edited) Platforming hands down 1008152 Seconded. That's probably why I still like Nintendo systems. The gamcube has the best controller for platformers, ever. Nothing else will ever beat it for that genre. The giant action button and unmistakenly different secondary button make it impossible to press the wrong thing at the wrong time. The GBA is the last real home of 2D platform games, which, I believe, is the best kind of platformer. I assume the DS is hopefully going to stick mainly to 2D platformers (not too many Mario64 DSs please), and produce more of the whole new touch screen platformer thing (like Kirby CC). Sonic #5 Posted January 28, 2006 (edited) 1) My first favorite game genre of all has to be RPGs, my favorite RPG has to be Final Fantasy 7. 2) Second favorite would have to be puzzle games. Edited January 28, 2006 by Sonic
Albert #6 Posted January 28, 2006 Role Playing Games (RPGs) are by far my favorite, although I also enjoy platformers, racing games, shooters, adventure games, and puzzle games. Probably the only genres I actively avoid are fighting games and sports games (at least your more "formal" sports titles, like football, baseball, basketball, etc.) ..Al
JB #7 Posted January 28, 2006 Right now, I'm not sure I could choose a single favorite genre. I'll play a little of anything.
Clock #8 Posted January 28, 2006 This should be a poll. Anyway I choose RPG as my favourite.
sega saturn x #9 Posted January 28, 2006 I don't have a favorite but my least favorite are fps and sports games, I'm not overly fond of rpgs but I like some of them. To me fps just all blend together ww2 games are the worst with that though. Sports games, well I just don't like sports but I get the idea if your a huge fan and the yearly team updates matter you. I personally don't understand it at all but whatever.
dalton4life #10 Posted January 28, 2006 A poll has been added! Sorry I forgot to put other in but I think cover most the genres that people would choose. Action is kind of a broad one.
SteveW #11 Posted January 28, 2006 I chose driving, but it's not a very accurate statement. I don't like racing games all that much, but I absolutely love vehicular combat games. My favorite games for different consoles have all been car combat titles. Fatal Run for the 7800, Outlander for the Genesis, Vigilante 8 Second Offense for the Dreamcast, Roadkill for the PS2/GameCube. Carmageddon was my favorite all-time Mac game, and i'm waiting (hopefully not in vain) for Carmageddon to be released for the Gizmondo.
Room 34 #12 Posted January 28, 2006 My favorites are definitely the action-adventure type games: Metroid, Zelda, Prince of Persia, etc. I also like arcade-style racing games (Burnout series). The only genre I am NOT into at all is sports games. Just can't get into them at all (other than Fight Night, but boxing's a different beast from baseball, football, basketball, etc.). AtticGamer #13 Posted January 28, 2006 Platform games, my favorite game of all time belongs to that genre, Super Mario World. Second favorite, is a one not present, Arcade games!
8th lutz #14 Posted January 28, 2006 My first has to rpgs. second has to be old school shooters like r-type or Galaga. Puzzle and platforming 2d style, beat'em ups, run 'n gun games (aka Contra).
BydoEmpire #15 Posted January 28, 2006 That's really tough to answer, but I had to go with RPGs, since they fill most of the slots on my "all time favorites" list. Although I haven't been playing many lately becaues they're such time sinks. ^^

I was really pretty good at it before I moved on. I saw the GBA (or was it GBC) version somewhere the other day and almost picked it up, but figured the experience wouldn't be the same. I'd love to see an N-Gage or DS version (racing games are one of the two genres made better by 3d, FPS being the other)
+Random Terrain #17 Posted January 29, 2006 I like different types of games and if the game has enough randomness in it that makes it replayable, there is a good chance that I will like it. I think I like sandbox games the best right now. Give me a lot of freedom and tons of fun stuff that I can do and I'm pretty happy. I want the freedom to run, swim, drive, fly and more all in the same game. And you can move that freedom out into space. I would love to have a randomized version of Star Control 2 (the good looking one from the 3DO, not the ugly PC version).
Shannon #18 Posted January 29, 2006 I think a couple genres were overlooked. Sandbox/sim (aka The Sims, Sim-City, RCT, etc) Strategy Flight Sim/Space Sim That being said I've probably gone thru each genre at some point in my life... arcade (80's style one screen games) RPG's Strategy Sim Racing Platforming FPS I'm currently pretty much at FPS/Action style games. I've done wore out RPG's but some day I'll return.
xenomorpher #19 Posted January 29, 2006 I mainly like FPS and Action games. Survival Horror games I usually enjoy. I just bought KOTOR for the XBOX and I am sort of getting into RPGs but prefer the action ones.
Atariboy #20 Posted January 29, 2006 Racing simulations and flight simulations.
awsomo3000 #21 Posted January 29, 2006 Platformers for sure. The probablem is there arnt so many good ones these days. I think its kind of a dying genre.
sega saturn x #22 Posted January 29, 2006 Platformers for sure. The probablem is there arnt so many good ones these days. I think its kind of a dying genre. 1008788 Now that I can't agree with there are tons of platformers on the market and lots of different kinds as well. Mario, sly, donkey kong, ratchet and clank, kirby, sonic, jak and daxter, psychonaughts, klonoa 2 and the list goes on.
liveinabin #23 Posted January 29, 2006 None of the above. I like Non games. Animal Crossing, Electroplankton and Nintendogs are just three examples I can name off the top of my head. Games with no definite end, where the achevements and challenges are set by your whim. Games that are only called games because it's a convenient term. I've pretty much done with every other genre. Shannon #24 Posted January 30, 2006 Animal crossing and nintendogs kinda fall into the "sandbox" genre.
moycon #25 Posted January 30, 2006 RPG for sure.
