I picked this up pretty cheap recently and reading the instructions it sounds like a really awesome game. The title screen and music are cool, but level one is a bitch. I've made it to the water once (of many attempts), and those satellites and choppers keep blasting me in mid-air.

 

Does the game get easier the more you play it and get used to it or is this an exercise in frustration?

Yep I was just thinking...Man that game is hard.

I'd have to imagine, just like any other game, that you could definately improve with practice.

Ok, I take it all back. This game does not suck. As a matter of fact, its pretty fun. I managed to figure out how to get past the first level and have almost been able to complete all three missions on Novice level (to get a 006 ranking, I hope!)

 

 

The game is hard, but if you figure a couple of things out, you'll have much more success. On the first screen with the lava fissures, you should NOT immediately run as far right as you can and try to jump. All this does is limit your air time and trap you into an easy mark for the chopper and satellites. Instead, stay closer to the left. Your car can jump a very long way to the right, so you will have much more room to clear the cravasse and dodge enemy fire (same goes for the nuclear reactions on the water later).

 

That single tip made the game instantly more playable and allowed me to progress.

 

I hold that this game does not suck, its just a bit harder than you might think!

This is exactly what I found out years ago on the C64 version.

 

I agree with you that it's actually a nice game.

I had the manual back in the day and had a blast working to get through the different levels. It's not an easy game, but if you stick to it, I found it rewarding and pretty unique. Much more puzzle/strategy elements than Moon Patrol (If you ever want to win a level,)

mid level rarity, 6 I think.

 

I had to win mine on ePay in a lot, but I've seen a few at conventions.

Rarity level varies with region, I'm sure. Here in the south (GA/FLA/NC/SC area,) I've never seen one in the wild.
