Would anyone like to start an arcade club?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about this for more like a fun type thing not like a business. What I would like to do is maybe create a website and put pictures and information about games like a large database of really hard to find information and restoration tips. I would like to try organizing people to do like fun gaming projects like redoing arcade game cabinets and fixing PCB's teaching each other basic tips and knowledge we have acquired. Oh and playing lots of games we have of course as well!! I’m from PA near Philly but people wouldn’t have to be limited to this area. I would really like to at least get people together to make a really good website to share information. Because lets face it, sometimes it’s really hard to find the stuff you need to restore your game even with the internet at our disposals. This would even be a great opportunity for people to trade parts and PCB's, games or whatever. (I will admit though I have not yet created a website and don’t know how to that’s why I haven’t started this already) Plus I need some really good information and pictures from people because even my knowledge is limited I have only been collecting for about 6 months. :)

Well, if you can find a host, I'll do what ever I can to help with pics and walkthroughs. One thing I always wanted to be able to go to is a page with detailed pics of the inside of the cabinets. Have you been to www.klov.com? It's one of the best resources on the net for arcades.

Yeah, I have been to the coin-op museum I haven't joined the website but when I have looked through a lot of there stuff there missing like manuals and other information. I would really like to try to get more in depth with some games on how they work and how to fix them stuff like that. More importantly strange problems that people have come across when fixing stuff and how they finally were able to fix them or if they even could. I have had some problems with some of my games and sometimes you have to search the net for hours on end just to find some obscure reference to your problem. That’s what I would like to help people out with most of all. And defiantly a reference of all the best places to buy parts other than just EBay.

I could use some tips on how to go about fixing my Death Race machine.

I don't think it's that bad off but I really don't know where to start with it.

Glenn,

First best place to start is checking all of the voltage outputs of the P/S , make sure you've got clean, steady power, even if they don't need replacing, replace all of the fuses with brand new ones, older fuses tend to cause a lot of noise on machines, I've seen that a lot in Ms. Pac Mans with a nasty high pitched humm which goes away with fresh fuses.

Once you're power supply is tested and good, check your monitor for power and video and give all of your controls a good cleaning and check, then sit your PCB board, pull all of the socketed chips, clean and check them, clean the edge connector and see if its coming up, if not, then you need to begin diagnosis of the board, try burning a new set of ROMs, many times the culprit is bad ram too, hopefully if your geting some garbage on the screen you may be able to narrow it down to bit rot ROM's or bad RAM and solve your problems quickly.
