Superman or Supermen - Label Variation

Recommended Posts

I, like many of you, am a collector of game label variations. Some of them are more interesting than others... but today I ran across one that was curious. It was a Sears label variation of Superman. The one that was already in my collection read "for 1 player", but my new one read "for 1 or 2 players". I just read the manual and this game is technically a two-player game. (If this is commonly known - about the label, my apologies). I've attached a photo of each.

Also, has there been any more thought to including the label variations on the Atariage site? I tried to use the Search feature to find out, but was not successful. All that I found out was there is an old list of label variations, but supposedly it's very old and outdated.

One more thing...

The page that has the information on the Sears version of Superman shows Model #: 99845 ... but both of these model numbers are 75152. Is there a variation with the number 99845?

Out of my entire 2600 collection I own one Sears Text label. It's the same Superman cart as yours that says one or two players. I'm not sure which one is rarer or even if any of them are rare. Crunchysuperman collects label variations amongst other people in these forums I think. He would definitely know better. Another list you can check is this one which is probably being kept more update, but is still missing variations. This list doesn't list the differences between these two Superman carts for example.

I've had both of these for a while, and neither were very difficult to find.

I find it strange that there doesn't seem to be a LVAR list that shows both of these. In fact, the only way I even knew they existed was because AA's only scan shows the "1 player" version and Atariguide's scan only shows the "1 or 2 player" version. :)

I'm also curious about the 99845 version. Actually, I never noticed it on AA's Superman page - I first saw it on this list of label variations (they show it as ?-99845, I suppose to speculate if it has a 6- prefix or not). If it exists, that would be four confirmed Sears Superman variations!

All the question marks mean it's just speculation. I only have the 49-75152 myself, but my personal list is missing this 1 vs 2 players distinction as well, so I may have based it on what you linked to.

And for what it's worth, the difference between the 49 and 6 series of labels was because Sears originally had Atari stuff in the sporting goods section of the store, then later moved it.

I also have the 1 and 2 player versions of 49-75152, but have never seen the 99845 version. I have the 49-75152 Superman Instructions with a blue cover. Does anyone have 99845 Superman Instructions?

I have the 1 or 2 player label and didn't know there was another but never looked into it too much. Figured one Sears text is as same as the next, like Tempest said, now there is another one I need.

I always concentrate more on the Atari label games, this is just never ending. How can you not love Atari collecting?

Interesting.

Never noticed this.

Omega, could you make a higher resolution scan of the complete cart for our database?

It's not included yet.

BTW: I gave up on looking for the ?-99845 one a long time ago.

I don't think it exists.

I'll have to dig through some boxes to see if I still have it. It was 3 1/2 years ago and one province away, lol.
