O2 switch box question...help!

A co-worker gave me an O2 with detachable joysticks, but couldn't find the switch box. Can someone here " show me the way", and steer me in the direction of how to replace one, without buying another system??

Well, I don't remember off-hand which of the O2's had the proprietary video switch... but if yours just has a regular RCA plug coming out of it, then all you need is to buy a new one from Radio Shack or whatever other electronics stores you might have around you (Get one with an actual switch, as many early systems didn't work properly with the automatic ones).

 

If yours has that strange wire instead, your best bet is to just buy a male-male RCA cable and replace it. Just open up the system and you'll see that the cord is just plugged into the board. Simply pull it out and put the new one in and you're good to go. Oh, and you'll still have a buy a switch box in this case too.

This is the solution! Instead of a switchbox you can buy a RCA to F1 adapter.

You can use a regular Radio Shack switchbox for now, but I suggest picking up one of the coaxial-to-RCA plugs that Atari Age sells. I picked up some at a game expo, and they work a whole lot better.

You don't even have to open the console, just cut the cord, strip it, and replace the jack with an RCA one.

Not as clean! What I did was open up the console (easy) .. flip the cable around and cut the propriatory plug off and solder directly to the board. Reassemble and you have a nice RCA plug on the outside. No $$ at all!

If you're soldering anyway hit Deathskull Labs (too lazy to post link). The composite AV mode just involves soldering the cable directly to the motherboard, no components to buy. Sound is rather loud though. Then no more RF lines on the screen
