lucifershalo #1 Posted February 8, 2006 I read that the controller port is the same, and as everybody is cursing about the intellivision controller is it possible to use an atari one? does it work? I know that some INTV games need the keypad but I am talking about the other ones of course

jsoper #4 Posted February 8, 2006 [i wish someone sold those 1015312 You would have to add a wire to an intv-2 for bringing 5v out, or have an external 5v supply though.

SteveW #6 Posted February 9, 2006 To answer the original question, the Intellivision II and Atari 2600 might have the same joystick plugs, but the controllers work completely differently from each other. They aren't compatible at all.

Foxsolo2000 #8 Posted February 9, 2006 I always thought that it was an oversight with Mattel to release a system in which you could not replace the original controllers so when one went wrong you had to take the entire system in to be repaired. The Intellivision 2 was a step in the right direction but came out too late to be truly noticed
Vic George 2K3 #9 Posted February 9, 2006 Too bad there weren't any special Y-adapters made for the Intellivision II that would allow for both Atari 2600 and Intellivision controllers to be used. That would have been the bomb for playing Intellivision games that required a joystick and a single action button.
Lord Helmet #10 Posted February 10, 2006 (edited) How would the diagonals work...the Inty pad is 16 directions, the Atari is 8...or am I mistaken? Edited February 10, 2006 by Lord Helmet
jsoper #11 Posted February 10, 2006 How would the diagonals work...the Inty pad is 16 directions, the Atari is 8...or am I mistaken? 1016308 You're correct, all the adapters so far reduce the 16 possible directions to 8. It would be possible to wire up a 5200 or vectrex controller (or even a PSX dualshock) for all 16 but it would take a bunch of comparators and logic chips.
