Neo Geo MVS- Odd Video Problem, can anyone help ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Bit of a newb to these forums so hope have posted this in the right place, I've tried everything I can think of to sort out an odd display problem with my MVS board with still no luck!

Dug out a consolized 2-slot I made a while back, and having reall issues with display?! The console used to work perfectly (using the same TV as now a Hitachi 28inch CRT). But when I plugged the system in this morning the video has black lines running through it, is very pixelated and looks awful. I have checked all video wiring and fuses etc. but they all seem to be fine? I have attached a few pics hoping someone can help?

I am getting NO Ram errors when using UniBios chip?

I have tried a few carts and all have the same problems!? I have cleaned cart contacts and blown the cart slots on the board but without any luck?

I have even ran the board (minus battery through dishwasher and still same prolem persists?

I have checked all traces as advised by someone else, cleaned thoroughly and am at a loose end, wondered if anyone can help???

Thanks.

Try adjusting the position of the carts in the board. The MVS carts can be kinda tempermental at times. I've had to spend several minutes readjusting my carts before to get them to have proper video.

Thanks Phine, have tried, seemd to start the problem when I put a game in each slot turned on board and video was corrupted?? I've washed and cleaned cart and board right through. Also both slots do exactly the same thing video-wise?

I have 2 Neo Geo 2 slot arcade games one of which I converted to a 4 slot. Now the 4 slot PCB I got at an auction and it was in bad shape dirtier than can be. Let’s just say I cleaned the hell out of it like 3 times all the slots with a crappy tooth brush and safe PCB cleaner. I still had some video problems cleaned it once or twice more the same way and adjusted the carts some and eventually got every slot working around 100%. Sometimes I still get the same video trouble with one or 2 of the games mostly with Samurai Showdown for some reason does the same video thing yours did I played with the cart a lot and it goes back to normal. Plus it may be the PCB it self I had a Ninja Combat MVS cart that would refuse to work at all in my 2 slot the 2 slot was a newer Neo Geo Board and then I picked up the old 4 slot board from the auction and the game plays fine as can be in it. Sometimes older games don’t work with newer boards and vise versa. You just have to keep cleaning and messing with the carts they eventually work. Sometime the slots themselves can be worn out and might not be making perfect contact with the carts but hopefully this isn't the case.

Yeah I understand this. But in the colour test panel with the RGB blocks, Red is Red, Green is Black, Blue is Red and White is White, surely these colour 'block's should be the right colour if the contacts were just dirty????
