Wolf9545 #1 Posted February 14, 2006 Right now the only way to know which games I have is to check my list that is printed out from the atariage website. I manually checked off the games that I own. Is there any software that lists all the games and allows me to check them off or something that allows me to enter them? What do you guys use?

Room 34 #3 Posted February 14, 2006 I haven't really gotten into using this, and it probably wouldn't work for stuff as old as Atari 2600 games, but for cataloging any collection of stuff from the UPC-label era, and if you're on a Mac, this seems unbeatable: http://www.delicious-monster.com/ You just enter a UPC label number, and it grabs copious amounts of info from the online ether. And if you've got a barcode reader -- OR EVEN A WEBCAM (like an iSight) -- you can just hold the barcode up to the reader/camera and it will scan it and get all of the information without you even having to key in anything at all. Sorry, I know it's not really 2600-related, but it's so cool I had to give it a plug. As for how I track my collection? Well, I did manually key everything way back when, into an Excel file, and then I imported that into the MySQL database I use to run my website. I manage the database with phpMyAdmin, so these days whenever I get a new game, the first thing I do is go into phpMyAdmin and add a new entry. It takes about half a minute (the thing that takes the longest is getting the external URLs for the links I always add) and keeps everything up-to-date. But it's not for everyone; I did it this way because I build PHP websites for a living, so it's second nature.
jetset #4 Posted February 14, 2006 Cart Commander Great for any system, and has a pretty decent, albeit outdated 2600 database.

Lord Helmet #6 Posted February 14, 2006 Right now I use an Excel spreadsheet. I'm going to upgrade to an Access db when I get time to work on it.

8bitclassics #11 Posted February 14, 2006 I created an Access database a long while back. Then I created a page layout to print off my list and had 6 pages per 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Worked great for a pocket sized list that I could take into the thrift's or game stores to see if I have or not. I started developing a database for my Windows CE system also, but saw some already available for certain WinCE apps. But I just downloaded cart commander and will take a look at that.
