brendano #1 Posted February 20, 2006 If you had to get rid of all your consoles and keep only one (let's hope such a judgement day never occurs) what would it be? After alot of thought over the matter I have decided for me it would be my Intellivision. I love the great first party support it got from mattel, all of the titles they made are top notch. The controllers are so great that they never had the limitation of one button like the 2600 and the disc is like a d-pad. It had great add-ons like the IntelliVoice and ECS making the intellivision upgradable. My favourite games include Night Stalker, Space Spartans, Auto Racing and Baseball. Plus the fact that it is the world's first 16-bit console does something for me as well (I dunno why). So what is your favourite console and why? SHAGOHOD X99 #2 Posted February 20, 2006 So what is your favourite console and why? 1021457 Well even though I've been playing my 2600 VCS more than anything else as of late, and am anticipating my 7800 ProSystem in the mail... my undying favorite console has been the SEGA Mega Drive (JPN model 1) probably since around 1993. Before that I went back and forth on what my fave system was, and many have come and gone in the last 23 years but I'd never sell my MD system nor any of my Atari systems either. Heck I've owned (7) Playstations at one point or another, (5) SATURNs... (3) Neo:Geo AES... (3) PS2s... (1) Xbox... etc, etc. But the the system that always remains is my Mega Drive, and my 2600 which I've had since 1983. For a more detailed look into how I look at things and gaming habbits read this, which sums it all up the 2nd question you ask as to Why? Not so much on my fave system but in SEGA overall. 8th lutz #3 Posted February 20, 2006 (edited) For me it has to be more then one console. I like the nes, sms, 7800, genesis, nes, ps1,snes and dreamcast. I don't count gameboy advance because it is a handheld. I like them all the same. The sms, nes, genesis, snes, ps 1, and dreamcast is due to the games they have. The 7800 is due to the fact of playing 2600 along with playing good games like food fight. Edited February 20, 2006 by 8th lutz
BassGuitari #4 Posted February 20, 2006 I think the Atari 2600 is my favorite system, but if I could only have one I might have to go with the NES or possibly Odyssey 2, since I grew up with them and have many fond memories associated with each. Cheese007 #5 Posted February 21, 2006 Odyssey 2 for some reason i have the most fun playing it over any other system i probably like it because of the joysticks and the score based games you can just keep playing forever
shadow460 #6 Posted February 21, 2006 With no hesitation at all, I'd ask to keep the 7800. It might be the one I play the least, but I can never go wrong with any 2600 game that I had when I was a kid. Plus I would still be able to enjoy the 7800 library, too. It would be very hard to give up my N64, but I'd still take the 7800 first.
Gregory DG #7 Posted February 21, 2006 Yup. A 7800 + a CC2 is all I would ever need.
JagFan422 #8 Posted February 21, 2006 good question and extremely hard. I'd keep my GP32 because i can just emulate almost every classic console.
jaybird3rd #9 Posted February 21, 2006 Atari 7800. It can play virtually all of the 2600 library, plus 7800 titles. It also makes a nice cartridge dumper and development console thanks to Eckhard Stolberg's DevOS software.
Classic Pac #10 Posted February 21, 2006 PS1 simply because i love the arcade complilations and Discworld games
bowser724 #11 Posted February 21, 2006 Definitely the NES. Can't go wrong with teh old Mario games.
Lord Helmet #12 Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) 7800: Plays the 2600 library, which is a must, and as a bonus you get the 7800 games too. Edited February 21, 2006 by Lord Helmet
Atariboy2600 #13 Posted February 21, 2006 Well here's my top three Fave consoles: Number 3- NES. Number 2- Colecovision. Number 1- Atari 2600.
jetset #14 Posted February 21, 2006 The big The black The beautiful The bad-buttoned The why is because it was my first console. Yeah, we had pong units and of course the 2600 before that...but those weren't mine. Sure I bought most of the games for the 2600 with my own money, and it ultimately became mine...but it was a "family" gift. The 5200 was a Christmas gift for MEMEMEMEMEME. I got Galaxian along with the pack-in (Super Breakout....I STILL dont know WTF Atari was thinking!) and Christmas eve/morning my brother and I sat up all night playing! From there, every penny I earned bought new games. I've gotten plenty of systems since, but the 5200 will always be my favorite. Arcade conversions at the time were THE thing. Not sports games, not adventure games or racing games. The 5200 had the best (imo) AND I can STILL buy brand-new games 20+ years later! How frigging cool is THAT? Paranoid #15 Posted February 21, 2006 Atari 5200 for me, too. Now that I've got one, and know where to find the supplies to keep it in good health, I'll never let it get away from me again, if I can help it. The why, pretty much as above. Best arcade conversions... SEXIEST console of all time, before or since... Small library with relatively few turkies. I've owned them all, too... even a Turbo Grafx. I own quite a few today... from the 2600 up to a couple XBoxes... but the 5200 is my all time favorite. I suppose I could even cheat and get the 2600 adaptor if the 5200 was the "only" system I kept. JB #16 Posted February 21, 2006 I couldn't choose. I've got an unholy(and possibly illegal) love of the Vectrex, but the software library's just a TAD small to be my only machine.
BydoEmpire #17 Posted February 21, 2006 Man, that's tough. If it was _any_ system as much as I hate to admit it, I'd have to go with the ps2. Tons of RPGs, lots of quirky games, the entire ps1 library and tons of retro compilations. It pretty much does everything. Not my favorite system by a long shot - it certainly hasn't gotten as much use as others - but if I had to have only one, that would be it. If I had to choose from classic systems only, I'd have to go with the Intellivision. The D&D games alone almost make it worth it, but the quality of the games overall is as good as any system ever. Which system is my favorite overall? Man, that's like asking someone their favorite child. Impossible question.
Atarifever #18 Posted February 22, 2006 I could be happy forever just collecting for and playing the Genesis. If I could include the 32X, Sega CD, and the Master System converter then the library would be even more substantial.
Zonie #19 Posted February 22, 2006 My Atari 400 would be the winner. I play it the most. Everything else I play has good enough emulation. Don't let my wife read this.
brendano #20 Posted February 22, 2006 Atari 5200 for me, too... SEXIEST console of all time, before or since... 1021987 Sexiest console? It is the biggest and heaviest console ever... What is your sex life like? The 2600 jr. is much slimmer and sexier
AtticGamer #21 Posted February 22, 2006 Ps2, can't go wrong with the quantity of games.
Osbo #22 Posted February 22, 2006 my DC, it can emulate almost anything (2600, 5200, coleco, NES)
NintendoDieScreaming #23 Posted February 22, 2006 Genesis, without a doubt.
joeybastard #24 Posted February 22, 2006 Tough call between the VCS and the CV... Can I say CV with a VCS expansion module?
Phineasfool #25 Posted February 22, 2006 Would be a tough choice for just one console. I think I'd probably go for the PC Engine Duo though. Was my favorite system through the 90s.
