+RangerG #1 Posted February 21, 2006 I have the Atari 2600, 5200, and the Colecovision as my main collection (with the TI-99 on the fence whether to stay or go). I love collecting for the 5200 and the Colecovision and I play them both regularly. I like the nostalgia of the 2600 and other people love to see it and play a few games that they remember. However, I am pretty happy with it and the cuttle cart and not interested in collecting too much for it. There are other systems that I have found or bought, cleaned up, and started collecting for (i.e. 40 to 100 carts). But, I lose interest and once I realize that the rarer carts cost so much, I tend to sell. I have done this with the Atari 7800, the Intellivision (twice), the Odyssey 2, and the SMS. Each time I worry that I will miss the system, but to be honest I haven't. What about you?
sega saturn x #2 Posted February 21, 2006 I don't collect for any system anymore(never really did), now all I buy is modern stuff. (32 bit and forward) It just didn't feel like I was really getting my moneys worth out of a lot of those old games. If I see a game I want on a system I own I'll get it regardless of the generation but I don't collect, or buy many old games at this point.
SHAGOHOD X99 #3 Posted February 21, 2006 I recently not only stopped collecting for BUT SOLD off my Super Famicom and have only a few remaning games CIB (Macross SV, Hokuto No Ken 6, The Thunderbirds, Snoopy Concert) that I need to sell off and then I'm done with it. I have had (2) SFCs and (4) SNES units over the years and while I do love the games that came out for the system, [and I know I'm generally in the minority on this issue] I personally get more enjoyment out my my Mega Drive and regular 8-Bit Famicom systems... and as of late it's only been the 2600 VCS I'm playing (soon to be 7800). I've also gotten rid of my XBOX (back in 2004 actually) and don't forsee buying another one unless it's a pre-modded ROM BOX setup for Mame and other stuff so not really for XB games. This time around I've no regrets. Heck I'm going to be putting up selling threads here and a few other forums soon for my Sega Master System + all the games, as well as some rare LCD handhelds like SDF Macross: Protect Armored 01 and an N64 bundle pre modded for import games + accelerator graphics chip, along with my Sega Saturn (which I love but it's time to let go). And again I'll have no regrets. I'm trying to get my collection down to no more than 7 systems total.
8th lutz #4 Posted February 21, 2006 The snes. I have have about every game I wanted and I didn't want any game that were ported to the ps 1 or gameboy advance.
figgler #5 Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) I stopped collecting for 2600, SMS and N64 over the years. All for good causes though. The 2600 purge funded a lot of the rarer NES items I have and the SMS never ever got play time anyhow. The N64 absense bothered me only a little, since unlike most of the 2600 games I let go, the 64 stuff is not really available elsewhere. However, the DS and Rev have the potential to bring back some of this stuff and make me regret stopping N64 a little less Right now my primary collections are NES, SNES, GCN, all GameBoys, Genesis/ Sega CD and DS. You need to draw the line somewhere, unless you're rich Edited February 21, 2006 by figgler
shadow460 #6 Posted February 21, 2006 Atari 2600. It's not that I started collecting and then stopped, but I never really collected specifically for it. I pick up games for it now and again, but I don't go out searching for 2600 games purposely. For most of my other systems, I'll simply buy the games I used to have before I lost most all of my game collection the first (and only) time. My GameBoy collection will be a little larger, partly due to me buying more one handed games for it, and the few titles that are compatible with the N64. bones #7 Posted February 21, 2006 I sold off my 5200, Intellivision, Colecovision, and Odyssey2 setups a while back, no regrets. Between the 2600 and Atari 8 bit my classic gaming fix is covered. I do tend to keep most of the mainstream consoles starting with the NES. With so many games released for these "newer" systems there are plenty of good titles to choose from for a decent sized collection. Can't exactly say that for something like the Arcadia
oesii #8 Posted February 21, 2006 I sold off a lot of my Colecovision games over the years but now I have a limited set of the good ones. The one system that I've sold off twice and have written-off is the Intellivision. Only found one or two games I would ever like to play and the controllers are the worst. Phineasfool #9 Posted February 21, 2006 All of the systems I owned except for the Atari and Sega ones. Also kept the Virtual Boy and the Turbo Duo. Just decided I would rather collect a limited number of systems with a bunch of games on each one rather than a whole crapload of systems with only a couple games each. Lord Thag #10 Posted February 21, 2006 I waffle around with the 16 bit stuff. Not a big geny or snes fan. I keep the jag around for the '2000 games and AvP. I'm pretty much keeping the 8-bit stuff.
JagFan422 #11 Posted February 21, 2006 i've never "stopped" collecting any of my systems. I will just buy a game here and there. I can tell you what i've slowed down collecting though, the 5200. And i never really got into collecting for my Sega CD.
Gabriel #12 Posted February 21, 2006 The Saturn. When mine died, I realized just how little I cared. The only games I even missed a little bit were Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Fighters Megamix and those two are far from indispensible.
jaybird3rd #13 Posted February 21, 2006 I was never a "collector," per se, but I haven't missed my ColecoVision stuff since I sold it off some years ago. The ColecoVision seems to have a very low percentage of original titles (most of its games are either arcade ports or are available on other platforms also), and the hardware was problematic. Red 5 #14 Posted February 21, 2006 Recently sold or traded: NES and a few hundred games SNES and a few hundred games N64 and a few hundred games Sega Master System Sega Genesis and a few hundred games TG16 PS1 CD-i GameBoy GameGear Odyssey 2 Kept: Vectrex Atari 2600 5200 7800 800XL Still Trying to get rid of: Colecovision Intellivision Virtual Boy Sega Nomad Sega CD Sega 32x Surprisingly haven't missed anything. Maybe the TG16 stuff made me a little sad to see go, but that's about it. I know I would regret getting rid of my Atari collection though.
Classic Pac #15 Posted February 21, 2006 Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 sure I love some of those games, but frankly I just lost interest in both of them. I can even say if anyone made me a good offer for all of what I have I sell it to them in a second.
+FujiSkunk #16 Posted February 21, 2006 There isn't a system that I've started collecting for and then stopped, but there are several systems that I've already determined I won't pursue a complete collection for. They are the Intellivision, the NES, and pretty much every system from the 16-bit generation on. I'll keep what I like, but I see no need to have everything. bowser724 #17 Posted February 21, 2006 N64. Once I got Conker, Mario 64, MK64, Rogue Squadron, Perfect Dark 64, etc., then I had to stop.
Lord Helmet #18 Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) I sold all of my Atari 8-Bit stuff and havn't looked back. Of course, I still play alot of the games in emulation... Edited February 21, 2006 by Lord Helmet
Vic George 2K3 #19 Posted February 21, 2006 Probably the Sega CD, since its game output was so lousy. I also had no regrets not getting anymore games for the Genesis and Game Gear. I got rid of those systems years ago.
Avid Fan #20 Posted February 21, 2006 Gamegear. I tried to love it, but it sucks. I got rid of my genny a few tears ago. Thinking of picking another one up for the few classics, and perhaps a MS converter for a few others. MAME really spoiled me on the Genesis since I played a lot of Arcade ports on it. But theres still some good originals
eric_ruck #21 Posted February 21, 2006 You're allowed to stop collecting? Hmmm.... Actually I've stopped collecting 8-bit computers. I find I haven't really enjoyed them. (Well, except for when they were new, then I enjoyed them plenty.) Getting rid of the last of the C64 stuff, got rid of miscellaneous TI99 stuff. Can't bring myself to get rid of the Atari 8-bit stuff, because that's what I grew up on, but I probably won't be adding any new stuff to my collection anytime soon. (Sorry folks, for now the 1400XL is staying right where it is.) Eric
glitch #22 Posted February 21, 2006 Being the consumate packrat I haven't gotten rid of anything yet but I do have a few systems I no longer pick up games for even when I see them. Systems I no longer look for games for PSX, N64 (although I just bought a pair of arcade stick controllers today), Saturn, C64 TI 99/4a TRS-80 Mac+ Atari ST Game Gear Microvision NeoGeo Pocket Systems I rarely pick up games for and only if they are dirt cheap and I know I don't have it. Even then I may pass. Sega Gen Sega CD (these usually are dirt cheap) NES (it's been well over a year since I last picked up a game) Dreamcast (again over a year) 3do
DeV0 #24 Posted February 22, 2006 Stopped collecting for megadrive, Threw the console out and gave the carts to a workmate. Stopped collecting n64, I only play n64 now through emulation on the xbox or gamecube. Sold my carts a while back.
Brad2600 #25 Posted February 22, 2006 I stopped collecting for the INTV, SNES and Master System. Neither system was able to hold my interest long enough. I do miss my boxed Imagic INTV collection though. I had a pretty decent one at one point.
