+RangerG #1 Posted February 24, 2006 OK flea market hounds, give us your stories. In my opinion there are some items that just seem to typically be nasty when found. #1 is the NES powerglove. The thing tends to smell like sweat, be all falling apart, and the outside plastic turning colors - stay away. Similarly, NES power pads tend to have gross spots on them. When it comes to consoles, the Genesis is my #1. They tend to be found without any controllers or power supply, dented, and covered with dust and other assorted wonders. Agree, disagree? figgler #2 Posted February 24, 2006 (edited) I found an abandoned spider's home inside an NES once. That was kind of gross. Not quite as nasty as a Nintendo Power I bought once that had a number of pages stuck together a la Penthouse Edited February 24, 2006 by figgler

Not really nasty but I have yet to see 7800 or 5200 that just wasn't covered in dents. I think atari found the cheapest metal they could find for the center of these things. It wasn't from a flea market but rather a man who couldn't sell the stuff to game stop, but for 5$ I got a totally filthy snes star fox cart. Mainly because I asked to look and felt I should get at least something. And while were on nintendo games, I see n64 and classic game boy games with labels torn off or have shit written all over them. Names of both the child who owned it or the name of the game itself in the 64 case, JOY!
Jess Ragan #4 Posted February 24, 2006 I remember Russ Perry Jr. (who never seems to post here... I wonder why?) telling me about the Vectrex that doubled as a roach motel. The guy who bought it couldn't get it working, and when he opened it, he quickly found out why. It was like a scene out of the film CreepShow! +remowilliams #5 Posted February 24, 2006 Many of the classic gaming controllers tend to always look like they just came from a filthy dirt, dust and bukkake party. Nasty!

I never thought it would be true.
brpocock #8 Posted February 24, 2006 Slightly off-topic: I've a friend who somehow had a small cockroach crawl into the modem jack on his PowerBook and lay eggs. Little tiny baby roaches popping out of every opening on that thing for ages. And what can you do? Don't exactly want to disassemble the thing and hose it down with Raid... SteveW #9 Posted February 25, 2006 (edited) The Vectrex I bought in a thrift had a pretty thick layer of orange dust or grime on it. I really had to scrub that thing to get it off. I bought an Atari 2600 at a flea market that had dried mystery gunk all over the bottom, and it had gotten all over a bunch of the carts and on the cart slot multiplier that came with it. I bought an Atari Jaguar controller and a copy of Alien Vs. Predator in a thrift, and the AvP reeked of cheap perfume. The box had somehow gotten doused in perfume, and even to this day, it smells sickly sweet and has oily stains on it. SHAGOHOD X99 #12 Posted February 25, 2006 Nastiest thing I ever saw was a loose cartridge of Blaster Master for NES at a flea market that had the bottom half of the label torn off and I shit you not... what looked and smelled a bit like smeared SHIT on the far ends of the cartridge. Just glad I never picked it up with my hands, it was lying on the 2nd stack of games on the top where the guy had a bunch of loose SNES carts and a few Game Gears (some of which didn't look much better) kind of made me wonder what some ppl might use carts for? Famicoman #15 Posted February 25, 2006 The nastiest things I ever saw were: -A Nes withsome dead bugs in it. -An Atari 2600 with a mysterious sticky substance on the bottem. -A 2600 game that had bubble gum on it. I didn't know it at firts. I tried to scrape it of because it was very hard, and then I noticed it was stretchy. It must have been there for a while. Trooper #16 Posted February 25, 2006 Well, I once bought an SVI728 from a "friend" who had dropped a can of coke in it and never felt like cleaning it off. Since he always had it standing on the rug in front of the TV a massive amount of dust had gathered in the cokestain that almost covered the entire machine. Quite disgusting. I also have an Amiga 1200 with loads of unidentified sticky "gunk" on it. I haven't been able to muster the strength to get to cleaning it yet. /T
Phineasfool #17 Posted February 25, 2006 I remember being at a Gamestop or EB Games one time and some guy was trading in an N64. The expansion port and other areas were filled with ants and ant eggs.
Famicoman #18 Posted February 25, 2006 Oh, that reminds me. I once bought an N64 that had peanut shells in it.

And everything else imaginable inside systems. Not nasty but slightly interesting: Overlays inside an intellivision sytem.
