Dawn of the Dead Romero

Recommended Posts

At a recent signing George Romero was asked to sign a copy of the Dawn of the Dead Atari 2600 cartridge. After a few seconds and a confused look on his face he asked what it was that he was signing. Once he realized that it was an Atari 2600 game his face lit up and he said "I didn't know they actually made this." It seems that there was discussion on bringing a Dead game to the Atari. Wizard perhaps?

I will try to get a good camera and then post a pic of the signed cartridge.

Boy, I thought the outcome was going to be a pissed off rant about not getting the rights to put the game out. Glad it was a happy ending. I love his movies as well. "Night of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead" are the pinnacle of zombie film. They haven't been surpassed yet.

Don't you dare forget about Day of the dead. Romero is gonna remake it soon too. Day of the dead the movie is 100 percent getting a facelift release and Romero said DAY is the only one of the the 3 form the trilogy he would ever remake so here's hoping they can get him to do it cause another "DOTD 2004ish type romero rip off and I'm gonna puke.

Great story. I love Romero's films. We watched Martin a couple weeks ago, if you haven't seen it, check it out! I also like Season Of The Witch.

There was a music video directed by him for the Misfits called "Scream". In exchange for doing the video for them the Misfits agreed to be in his movie Bruiser because he needed a band and they fit the image perfect.

The music video has them in a hospital up in Canada I believe and some infected people get rolled in on gurney's, as the song kicks in they come to life and start walking like zombie's at everyone and biting them to infect them also. The end of the video turns out the whole thing was all in some girls imagination and she's actually backstage at a Misfits concert. Really good video, my favorite band of all time.

I like "Day of the Dead too, not as much as the first 2 though. Romero claims "Day" is his favorite. It still has the weird feel that the first 2 did, sadly, which, I think, Land of the Dead did not. AND Bub is probably the cutest zombie ever.

I haven't seen Marvin and Season of the Witch since the '80s. I have to check them out again.

I'm a long time Misfits fan as well. Although, I haven't listened to anything post-Danzig.

Anybody ever go to Tom Savini's halloween thing he puts on? I don't live that far from that area. I'm probably 2 hours from the Monroeville Mall. I should go out there sometime.

Here's a picture of my tattoo:

I have been saying this for years, but I'm gonna get Doyle as a skeleton playing guitar underneath, and under that a Weird NJ logo. The Misfits logo will be dripping blood and the Weird NJ logo on fire. The blood and fire will connect, engulfing Doyle.

LOTD was good but your right it didn't have the full effect of the older romero movies. I did find though, that his directors cut of the film was far better than the theatre release. It addes about 5 or 10 mins to the film in total but it adds all gore that give you that creepy, pit of the stomache, I know it's wrong to be entertainted by this feeling Romero films are ment to give you. I didn't get that full effect from either version (cut or uncut) but the uncut was a little closer. Let's just hope he re-does DAY and does it the way he talks about how it was ment to be, if we ever get to see the true "vision" of day of the dead as I understand it, it would be the best Zombie flick sense the original Dawn (witch is the best zombie flick ever IMO and is also my fav movie of any type, the 2h11min version)

EDIT: just a side note of sorts, anyone got DAWN on Lasrer disc or video disc?

I always thought that that the skeleton with the devillock holding the microphone on the back of Legacy of Brutality would be a pretty cool tatoo. I could freak my neighbors out with something like that. Hee hee.

Pardon my french, but anyone that thinks DOTD '04 is better than DOTD '78 is a fucking retard that has no clue and most likely hasn't even seen the original.

The best part of 04 was the Johnny Cash intro or the Gun Mart guys video that was in the bonus features of the DVD. I think the bonus featurettes on the DVD where better than the auctual movie.

Yep, I agree. It was down hill from the Cash intro (which set up a feeling of dread pretty well, I thought). The nadir was that chainsaw slicing through that woman. Totally unnecessary. Oh wow, 28 Days Later did so much for the zombie genre...even though it wasn't a zombie movie---it made zombies run fast. Goody goody.

Aside form that, 28 days later was a horrible movie no matter what one of the many alternate scenes or endings you want to attach to the film. I personally have seen 3 different endings to tha movie and abou 20 mins of alternate footage and they all suck no matter how you peice it together, I really tried to like that movie but it just didn't happen for me.

Number 4

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

That's right: The remake made the list and Romero's 1978 original didn't. And even though I know you zombie enthusiasts are about to start firing off hate e-mails, what can I say? The remake is simply a better, more entertaining movie. Crow all you want about how Romero's film was brilliant for its time, but we ain't in Romero's time no more. Ours is a time that appreciates gushing neck wounds, cars careening into gas stations, and zombie-consuming fireballs. And Dawn of the Dead delivers all that, and more.

The story in here is really nothing extraordinary: Zombies take over city, humans take refuge in shopping mall and then try to fight their way out. The direction (courtesy of Zack Snyder), however, elevates Dawn of the Dead into a class of its own. The first 20 minutes of this movie are pure chaos, and you'll be giggling nervously for the remainder of it.

Best zombie kill scene: The survivors use a sniper rifle to pick out zombie celebrity-lookalikes in the parking lot.

Call me a purist, but I think the ONLY remake worthy of being considered a GOOD remake, was the 1990(or 91....can't remember now) of "Night of the Living Dead". That one, while a little different from the original, was very close story-wise. I still enjoy the original, and I do mean the BLACK AND WHITE version, not that rediculous "colorized" version(if you haven't seen it, DON'T!!!!). Dawn of the Dead was a classic! The director's cut even more so, because it actually explained a few things the theatrical version left out. Day of the Dead was also a classic!

I refuse to see the remake of Dawn.....because from what I understand, much of the original storyline was changed. The only thing left in was the shopping mall.....IMO the mall wasn't the whole of the story. I don't think I will go see a remake of "Day" either....because they will probably change a bunch of stuff, and quite probably rip out a scene from the original that I absolutely LOVE! At the begining, that one military guy is plucking a marijuana plant. Gotta be PC, and get rid of the drug reference.

Bag that....gimme the originals ANY day of the week!

The original Dawn of the Dead is a great movie. The re-make is a good movie, and it gets better if you don't even compare it to the original version. Just take it as a totally different movie. It's not like there are a lot of main stream Zombie movies to see so I'll take any that I can get. The worst thing about the new version is this:

h110_feat01.jpg

I still have nightmares about that one.... :ponder:
