Paranoid #1 Posted March 1, 2006 Are they all standard? Do I have to mailorder from HAPPS or will my local hardware store have them? I just hooked up my coinbox to an old AT power supply (neat hack) and one light is working, but the other bulb is dead. I checked one of my other cabs, and it seems like the bulbs are different. I've got a bulb that sits in a tiny plastic case with a positive and negative terminal on the end of the case. If you pull the bulb, it looks like a bigger white christmas tree light. My other unit, it seems to have a bulb that has a brass "end" like a real bulb, without the threads and a terminal (negative, positive?) at the bottom of the brass end. One wire goes to the end of the brass piece, one goes to the side, though. I suppose one lighted coin slot is better than none at all... Now to hook up the coin-mech to my side button on my X-Arcade. Woohoo... just like the real thing. I think I'll make friends pay to fund my obsession.
Dr Galaga #2 Posted March 2, 2006 If you pull the bulb, it looks like a bigger white christmas tree light. 1026551[/snapback] This one is an automotive bulb. You can get these at K-Mart, AutoZone, etc. The other kind you may be able to get at a hardware store - never really looked. I bought a big box of them off of ebay a few years ago so I'll be set until I retire.
TheBman80 #3 Posted March 2, 2006 I went to Radioshack don't know if you have one near you but they have some replacement bulbs for flash lights and what not. I found a pack of 2, 6.5 volt light bulbs for my Asteroids Deluxe cab there.
Paranoid #4 Posted March 2, 2006 Thanks for your replies! I actually wiggled them around and got them both working. I think they had sat for so long the copper was corroded and wiggling them scraped off enough that they started working again. I had looked real close and the elements in both looked good... But I'm sure they'll go out eventually, and it is good to know... especially that it is just an automotive bulb. Gotta love that.
Cassidy Nolen #5 Posted March 3, 2006 If its the blade style auto bulb, which it sounds like, you can use a 164, 168 or 196 bulb (the later being the brightest). If its the old socketed type turn bulb those are generally 6 volt (like Asteroids) and are a 44 bulb. Any lighting shop or Radio Shack sells them. If you have a REALLY good auto store they should have them too. Remember, cars USED to be 6 volt (like my first VW bug ). Cassidy
