Partially-working CX-10 Joystick

Managed to get the last CX-10 that I needed off eBay, but the problem is that when I tested the stick after opening up the package, I only get a working left direction. Having tried swapping a few cables with my somewhat-working CX-40 sticks, and even a similar PCB, I can't get anything to work. Also apparently when I pressed the "left" and "right" direction contacts on the PCB down, it activated the "fire" button. What's going on with this stick? I don't want to throw the thing away.

Sounds like someone scrambled the wiring. You can follow the tracks on the board visually; here's the wire color code:

black = common

brown = left

green = right

blue = down

white = up

orange = fire

That's what I noticed when I opened it up. I corrected the wiring and still no luck. I've seen a replacement PCB that's in the same shape as this one on eBay and am contemplating purchasing it.

Did you by any chance try cleaning the contacts?

I could, but that would require I remove the tape. I believe we know how that might end up.
