bedouin
I just discovered this game published by the venerable Brøderbund after picking up a Mac Classic II. I was never aware of it when it was actually released, but it apparently made it to Amiga, DOS, and even the NES. It's kind of like a mixture of air hockey and Pong -- like a more advanced version of Video Olympics. If you're a fan of either, you should check this game out (preferably the Amiga or Mac version. Just thought I'd share this discovery. Definitely worth checking out.
Room 34
Yes, a much beloved game! I kept it alive on my old Mac SE until that beast itself finally died. Now I have a copy of it running on Mini vMac
Phineasfool
I used to have this game on my Amiga. Loved it back then. Would love to get a complete copy again.
Tempest
I think I lost my Junior year of high school to this game. We did all our programming on Mac Classics (in Pascal!), and someone was passing around a copy of Shufflepuck. Great game... BTW the Mac version is slightly different than all the other versions. The graphics are differenet (especially for the bartender robot). Tempest
Zach
I remember that game. I've also pondered how it could be ported to the 2600.
Rockin' Kat
I play it on my Apple IIgs. Edited March 8, 2006 by SuperPsycho
Jess Ragan
Wasn't Shufflepuck Cafe included with one of the VG Pocket MAX game systems? JR
DeV0
Shufflepuck destroyed my 1st amiga mouse. Great game
Inky
There's a great Linux recreation of it called TuxPuck
Mindfield
I had Shufflepuck on the ST back in the day. Fun game -- love some of the expressions of the characters when you score a goal against them, and their reactions when you beat them. Colecovision
I love these aliens. I had this game on Atari St as well. Later on I played this on mac and it was in black and white. Edited March 8, 2006 by Colecovision
bedouin
There's a great Linux recreation of it called TuxPuck 1030141[/snapback] Thanks for the tip. I just installed this on my Debian box; it's definitely fun, and using an optical mouse is 10xs better than the Classic's.
bedouin
Anyone know where I can obtain the OS X binary of TuxPuck? One exists, but the TuxPuck page is out of order, and when trying to grab the file directly gets a 'forbidden" error. I tried to build from source but that's not happening. The Linux machine is in the other room; I would rather have it on my main desktop.
kisrael
Early(ish) Mac had some neat games. Anyone remember that port of Risk? That was a lot of multiplayer fun, much better than fiddling with all the cards and dice and what not
dogcorn
Yep, SC and Risk were two of the three Mac games I remember from my first two years in college. The other was Crystal Quest. "Doing!"

My three Mac games on a good ol' SE were Shufflepuck Cafe, Risk, and Dark Castle. Also played while in college and grad school.
liveinabin
Really bizarre cover though, don't you think? (sorry, smallest web image I could find)
bedouin
I whole game is pretty bizarre really, which is part of why it's so great.

DeV0
Ive made the effort of downloading the disc image, networking my pc to my a600 and copied to an amiga disc. It was worth the effort, must go down in the hall of fame as a classic
coach41
I never owned a Mac, but went to the "Egghead Software" and "B-Dalton Software" back in the old days and played Shufflepuck Cafe often. I would like to play it again as I am a big Air Hockey fan.
RARusk
Back in the late '80s I was a gametester for Broderbund. One of the games I tested was "Shufflepuck Cafe". It was certainly an interesting and fast paced game. I did better on the DOS version because I could the analog sticks and whip them around similar to the motion you used when using a real...err...shuffle. Oddly enough, I was never able to play though a complete game perfectly. There was one character that always managed to get one past me so I would end up with a score of 15-1. Everybody else I managed to blank on a regular basis.
