procyon #1 Posted September 25, 2001 Can someone clarify if U.H.o.V.G is just a second edition of Kent's First Quarter? Or is it a new book with new material? I had heard that the book was going to change titles, but I don't know if this was the result. First Quarter was good, but I don't want to pay for the same thing in a new cover... liquid_sky #2 Posted September 25, 2001 From what I know, it is a 2nd edition with a new name, new photos, and new artwork.
Alex #3 Posted September 25, 2001 Ah, I was wondering about that. They seemed very similar, but the descriptions weren't exactly the same. First Quarter also looks like it's being reprinted on Amazon's site (new release date), which added to the confusion. I hadn't heard anything about it though... liquid_sky #4 Posted September 25, 2001 here is a news blurp from classicgaming.com: The Ultimate First Quarter August 3, 2001 7:35 | Liberator | If you procrastinated in buying Steven L. Kent's book, The First Quarter, you might have noticed that Amazon.com sold out of it. However, you're getting a second chance. Prima Publishing will be re-releasing The First Quarter under the much less clever title, Ultimate History of Video Games: From Pong to Pokemon, the Story Behind the Craze That Touched Our Lives and Changed the World (ISBN 0761536434) on September 1st. This time, you should be able to find it at your local bookstore (or at least be able to have them order you a copy) for $18.95.
Alex #5 Posted September 26, 2001 Thanks, I totally missed that at Classic Gaming. I've changed the news item, and we will hopefully be getting some details on what exactly is changed. I have to say, I think I like the old title and cover better, but I guess this one was perceived to be more marketable.
liquid_sky #6 Posted September 26, 2001 I guess they figure a longer title will draw curious readers? I must agree, the origional style and name was much better
